Ascap (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) is an American performing rights organization based in New York City. Founded in 1914, Ascap's primary purpose is to protect the rights of its members by licensing and collecting royalties for the public performance of their musical compositions. Ascap represents over 725,000 songwriters, composers, and music publishers, with a vast collection of more than 11.5 million musical works. The organization also provides songwriter workshops, special performances, and tools to help its members develop their craft. Ascap's mission is to support and celebrate the creators of music by advocating for fair compensation and protecting the value of music in our society.
