The Space Telescope Science Institute is a research institute located in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. It was established in 1981 to serve as the science operations center for the Hubble Space Telescope, and later expanded to support other space-based observatories such as the Spitzer Space Telescope, the Kepler Mission, and the James Webb Space Telescope. The Institute conducts scientific research and provides the astronomical community with data and tools to analyze astronomical data. It also supports science education and public outreach programs. The Institute is funded by NASA and operates as a partnership between NASA, the European Space Agency, and the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy.
