6-12 ESL Teacher

The Lansing School District serves over 10,000 PreK-12 students across 25 school buildings in the increasingly diverse urban community of Lansing, MI. All of Lansing School District’s team members are dedicated to our mission to provide an excellent education to all students in a safe and nurturing environment.   In pursuit of this mission, we are hiring a 6-12 English as a Second Language (ESL) within the Lansing School District. Students who qualify to enroll in ELD programming may have limited formal schooling, migrant lifestyles, and low literacy levels in their native language, making it difficult to transition into a secondary school setting. Focused literacy instruction in English and sheltered exposure to academic content is essential for successful integration. The teacher will work to establish a safe and nurturing learning environment for students where background knowledge, language and culture is valued and time is given to orient students and families to culture, school, and community. Teachers will work alongside other staff, parents, and volunteers to ensure they are providing the best education experience to all students.
