About this role

ABOUT US

We Are Social is a global socially-led creative agency with unrivalled social media expertise. With more than 1,200 people spanning four continents, we deliver world-class creative campaigns and strategies based on social insights, for forward-thinking brands.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for an Art Director who is also a hands-on content creator — someone who can think big, make things happen, and move comfortably between campaign ideas and the fast pace of social.

You’ll work alongside our creative team to develop concepts and bring them to life across advertising, social and digital platforms. From shaping the visual direction of a campaign to creating a TikTok, building a social post, or turning a cultural moment into a reactive idea, you’ll be involved from concept through to execution.

We’re looking for someone who understands that great social work isn’t simply about making things look good. It’s about understanding culture, audiences, platforms and behaviours, and turning that understanding into ideas and content that feel relevant, distinctive and native to the way people actually consume and share content.

You’ll move fluidly between polished campaign work and fast-turnaround social content, balancing creative ambition with the speed and responsiveness that social demands. With a strong point of view and a high bar for craft, you’ll collaborate closely with teams across disciplines to create work that is distinctive, relevant and effective.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to ideation, developing fresh and innovative concepts that can flex across campaigns, platforms and touchpoints.
  • Translate bigger creative ideas into platform-native content for TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and emerging social platforms.
  • Create and direct content across formats, including short-form video, social posts, carousels, memes, reactive content, creator-led concepts and campaign assets.
  • Develop ideas quickly in response to cultural moments, platform trends, audience behaviours and client opportunities.
  • Bring a strong understanding of internet culture, creators and social conventions to client briefs, ensuring ideas feel authentic rather than forced.
  • Own and shape the visual direction of projects, ensuring work is distinctive, cohesive and crafted to a high standard.
  • Develop sketches, storyboards, treatments, prototypes, mockups and other visual concepts to communicate ideas and bring them to life.
  • Create, test and refine content using design, editing and emerging creative/AI tools to work quickly and explore ideas at pace.
  • Collaborate with copywriters, strategists, producers, content creators, community managers and account teams to develop ideas that are creatively strong, strategically grounded and executable.
  • Engage actively in project discussions, considering strategy, production requirements, platform behaviours, timelines and client feedback throughout the creative process.
  • Research social trends, creators, online communities, competitors and audience behaviours to inform and strengthen creative decisions.
  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively, maintaining a high standard of craft even when working at speed.
  • Present creative work confidently in internal and external settings, clearly articulating the creative rationale and responding constructively to feedback.

What are we looking for?

  • A highly creative, hands-on maker with a strong point of view and a passion for visual storytelling, social media and culture.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating your ability to develop ideas, shape visual direction and turn concepts into compelling social and digital executions.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in art direction, visual design, content creation or a similar creative role — or equivalent experience demonstrated through your portfolio.
  • A deep understanding of major social platforms and their distinct audiences, behaviours, visual languages and creative conventions.
  • Someone who can comfortably switch between big campaign thinking and fast-turnaround social content.
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop and Illustrator. Familiarity with tools such as Figma, Canva, Midjourney, Gemini and other emerging creative/AI tools is a plus.
  • Comfortable creating and editing short-form video content, with an understanding of what makes content work on social platforms.
  • A keen eye for detail, craft and consistency, with a high bar for the quality of every output.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across creative and non-creative disciplines.
  • A proactive self-starter with strong ownership and accountability who takes initiative and sees ideas through from concept to execution.
  • Genuinely curious about culture and the internet. You actively participate in social media, follow creators and communities, understand emerging trends and formats, and are interested in where culture is heading — not simply observing it from a distance.

Good to haves:

  • Experience with animation, motion graphics, 3D or other forms of visual experimentation.
  • Experience using AI tools as part of the creative development and production process.
  • A strong understanding of marketing principles and brand communication.
  • Experience creating or growing content through your own social channels, creator projects or online communities.
  • Experience shooting, directing and editing short-form video content.
