Assistant Attorney Manager
About this role
The Assistant Attorney Manager is responsible for supervising, leading, and mentoring a team of 8–10 attorneys, while also maintaining direct involvement in certain, select cases. To be successful in this role, the Assistant Attorney Manager reviews cases and provides guidance to their attorneys across all phases of case and docket management, and meets with their attorneys at least bi-monthly to review past activity, define priorities, and track progress against team goals and initiatives.
The success of both the Assistant Attorney Manager and their attorneys is measured through performance metrics, customer service metrics, and documentation metrics. While the Assistant Attorney Manager regularly monitors the team's performance against these metrics, the role remains actively engaged in ensuring that attorneys' cases are moving through the pipeline, and that trial attorneys are held accountable for the performance of their teams. Ultimately, the Assistant Attorney Manager is tasked with maximizing gross revenue through increasing case value and case velocity, resulting in settlement outcomes that provide fair compensation to DJC Law clients.
Team Leadership and Supervision
• Effectively monitor and supervise the attorneys.
• Provide training and development of the attorneys.
• Hire, fire, and counsel the attorneys in accordance with Puerto Rico employment law.
• Enforce firm standards across the pods.
Case and Docket Management
• Review cases and provide guidance to attorneys in all phases of case and docket management.
• Maintain direct, hands-on involvement in certain, select cases.
• Meet with attorneys at least bi-monthly to review past activity, define priorities, and track progress on team goals and initiatives.
Case Velocity and Performance Management
• Accurately measure case velocity throughout the life of each case.
• Consistently review and train attorneys on case velocity.
• Enforce case velocity metrics across the pods.
• Hold attorneys accountable for the performance of their teams.
Client Experience Management
• Micromanage the client experience across the team's caseload to ensure consistent, high-quality, and responsive service at every stage of a case.
• Closely monitor client communications and satisfaction, intervening directly where service falls short of firm standards.
• Personally review and resolve escalated client concerns and complaints in a timely manner.
Revenue and Case Outcomes
• Maximize gross revenue through increasing case value and case velocity.
• Drive settlement outcomes that provide fair compensation to DJC Law clients.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position directly supervises a team of 8–10 attorneys. Supervisory duties include monitoring performance, training and development, counseling, and hiring and termination decisions, in accordance with DJC Law policy.
Performance Metrics
Performance in this role, and of the attorneys supervised, is evaluated against the following categories of metrics:
• Performance metrics – including case velocity, case value, and settlement outcomes.
• Customer service metrics – including client satisfaction and responsiveness to client communications.
• Documentation metrics – including accuracy and timeliness of case file and docket documentation.
Qualifications
Education and Licensure
• Management experience required
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in Texas or eligible to waive in (licensed over 5 years).
• Five years experience practicing personal injury law.
Experience and Skills
• Prior experience supervising, managing, or mentoring attorneys strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience managing a high-volume case docket, with a strong working knowledge of case and docket management practices.
• Strong leadership, coaching, and performance-management skills.
• Excellent judgment and the ability to hold others accountable to firm standards and metrics.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Work Environment
This is an in-office position based in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Remote and hybrid work arrangements are not available for this role.
