Job Title: Assistant Chief Flight Instructor


Purpose

The Assistant Chief Flight Instructor (ACFI) supports the Chief Flight Instructor in the oversight and coordination of flight training operations. The ACFI supervises instructors, ensures quality and compliance with regulatory requirements, assists with scheduling and operational efficiency, and promotes safety and instructional excellence across the program.

Responsibilities

1. Instructor Supervision & Mentorship

  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of flight instructors, providing feedback and support for instructional improvement.
  • Mentor instructors, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
  • Assist in the supervision of Class 3โ€“4 instructors, as delegated by the CFI.

2. Program Development

  • Assist in developing and updating lesson plans, course materials, and training content.
  • Support instructional quality by aligning materials with Transport Canada guidelines and college standards.

3. Safety Management

  • Actively contribute to the Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Submit safety reports and support safety investigations and follow-up actions.
  • Promote a strong safety culture among staff and students.

4. Operational & Administrative Support

  • Assist with the coordination of instructor schedules, ensuring efficient delivery of training sessions.
  • Support student enrollment processes and track training progress as needed.
  • Help manage documentation, student records, and flight/ground school logs.

5. Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure that all flight training activities comply with Transport Canada regulations and internal policies.
  • Stay up to date with any changes to aviation standards and communicate them to instructors.

6. Instructor Development & Standardization

  • Conduct periodic training and standardization sessions to ensure instructional consistency.
  • Assist in conducting instructor briefings and debriefings as required.

7. Communication & Liaison

  • Act as a point of contact between instructors and the CFI.
  • Represent the CFI in meetings or operations when delegated in writing.

8. Other Duties

  • Carry out additional responsibilities as delegated in writing by the Chief Flight Instructor.
  • Act in the absence of the CFI as needed, based on delegation and regulatory permissions.


Requirements

  • Class 1 or Class 2 Flight Instructor Rating issued by Transport Canada
  • Valid Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) or Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL)
  • Valid Category 1 Aviation Medical Certificate
  • Minimum of 500 hours total flight time, with at least 200 hours of instructional experience
  • Thorough knowledge of Transport Canada Regulations
  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety requirements
  • Working knowledge of Safety Management Systems and Quality Assurance
  • Transport Canada Authorized Person Authority experience

Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary education in aviation, aviation management, or a related field is considered an asset.
  • Instructional techniques training or adult education certification is an advantage.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Flight Instructor in a Flight Training Unit (FTU), preferably with supervisory or leadership responsibilities.
  • Experience with flight scheduling systems, such as Flight Schedule Pro
  • Familiarity with developing or reviewing lesson plans, training materials, and student evaluations
  • Experience contributing to or leading aviation safety investigations, reporting, and analysis is preferred.
  • Previous involvement in program development or instructor standardization initiatives is an asset.


Compensation:

$2000 basic pay plus $45 per hour for flight instruction and $25 per hour for ground training and ground briefing.
