The Department of Engineering at Abilene Christian University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position. We are seeking a talented engineer and dedicated follower of Christ who desires the opportunity to shape the next generation of engineers through teaching, mentorship, research, and program-building.

Abilene Christian University is a Church of Christ-affiliated private university that recently attained R2 status, with a mission to educate students for Christian service and leadership throughout the world. Within the Department of Engineering, we seek to form our students academically, professionally, and spiritually. Since launching as a General Engineering program in 2012, we have grown to serve approximately 200 students across several disciplines, with Mechanical and Electrical Engineering serving as cornerstones of our hands-on curriculum. As we continue to expand and pursue new avenues of growth, we are seeking faculty who are passionate about mentoring the next generation of engineers, bridging faith and modern technology, and contributing to our vibrant, growing department.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Education, or a closely related discipline (such as Aerospace, Computer Engineering, Materials Science, Mechatronics, Nuclear, or Systems Engineering).  Applicants should be prepared to teach courses at all levels of study, either in existing courses or by developing new courses specific to their expertise.

  • Demonstrate a strong desire to develop excellence in teaching and provide intentional mentorship to our students. Demonstrate an ability to establish a sustainable research program that prioritizes the active participation of undergraduate students. Demonstrate a willingness to participate in student advising, faculty governance, industry partnerships, program and curriculum development, and accreditation efforts. Be a collegial team member, exemplifying the virtues of humility, drive, collaboration, and integrity.

Typical Duties

  • Teaching

    • Deliver effective instruction across a range of foundational engineering courses and specialized topics in mechanical or electrical engineering.

    • Implement evidence-based instructional methods that reflect current best practices in engineering pedagogy.

    • Lead the development and execution of experiential learning activities, laboratory sessions, and project-based coursework.

    • Collaborate on the continuous improvement of curriculum and laboratory facilities to support ABET accreditation.

  • Scholarship

    • Establish a sustainable program of scholarly activity consistent with your expertise and the university’s mission.

    • Actively involve undergraduate students in research, providing them with high-impact professional experiences.

    • Pursue opportunities for external funding and peer-reviewed dissemination of research findings.

  • Service

    • Mentor engineering students in their academic progress, career planning, and professional development.

    • Supervise and guide students through the completion of their senior capstone design projects.

    • Serve as a faculty advisor for student professional organizations and departmental committees.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering,

    Engineering Education, or a closely related field (e.g., aerospace, computer engineering, materials science, mechatronics, nuclear, or systems engineering).

  • Past record of effective communication, teamwork, and planning skills.

  • Record of or demonstrated potential for scholarly work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Classroom and laboratory teaching experience at the university level.

  • Coursework or formal training in engineering education pedagogy.

  • Professional engineering licensure (PE) or the ability/intent to obtain one.

  • Demonstrated ability to gain external research funding for scholarly work.
