ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF PRACTICE IN NEUROSCIENCE

Department of Psychology, LSU New Orleans

The Department of Psychology at LSU New Orleans invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Practice, beginning January 6, 2027 (Spring semester 2027).


This is a teaching-focused, non-tenure-track appointment centered on instruction, curriculum development, and program growth. We are especially interested in candidates who see university teaching as their primary professional focus and who want to help grow a new program. The successful candidate will play a central role in shaping the curriculum of the University’s new interdisciplinary undergraduate Neuroscience program.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach 12 credit hours per semester during the academic-year.

  • Contribute to instruction in the new interdisciplinary Neuroscience program and in existing Psychology courses. Courses may include Introduction to Neuroscience, Neurobiology, and Physiological Psychology.

  • Develop, deploy, and coordinate laboratory courses (wet and/or computational), including design of laboratory exercises, assessment, and supervision of laboratory instruction.

  • Teach large-enrollment introductory courses in in-person and/or online asynchronous formats.

  • Contribute to program growth, including curriculum development, course scheduling and coordination, student advising and mentoring, program assessment, and recruitment and retention activities.

  • Participate in departmental and program service appropriate to a teaching-focused appointment.

REQUIRED APPLICATION MATERIALS

  • A statement of teaching philosophy and experience (2 pages maximum);

  • Summaries of student evaluations for the three most recently taught courses, including the evaluation instrument used and response rates;

  • At least one peer teaching observation or other evidence of teaching effectiveness beyond student ratings.


Letters of recommendation and official transcripts will be requested from finalists.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctoral degree in Neuroscience, Psychology, or a closely related field, prior to the appointment start date.

  • University-level teaching experience as instructor of record.

  • Documented evidence of teaching effectiveness including student evaluations.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A sustained record of excellence in undergraduate teaching, including strong student and peer evaluations across multiple courses.

  • Experience developing new courses and, in particular, laboratory curricula (wet lab, computational, or both).

  • Experience teaching large-enrollment and/or online asynchronous courses.

  • Experience with program-level assessment, accreditation, or curriculum coordination.

SALARY:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
