The Associate Professor’s primary role is to teach in their areas of expertise, maintain the ‎‎integrity of ‎‎course and ‎instructional programs, and to ensure that their delivery is in alignment with the University ‎‎mission and ‎‎‎vision for the student experience. As such, faculty are responsible for creating an academic ‎‎atmosphere ‎‎‎of mutual respect and consideration for individual dignity. Faculty members may be asked ‎‎to aid in the ‎‎‎development of curriculum in the residential and distance education environments, as well ‎‎as engage in ‎‎‎research/scholarship or creative activity that varies depending upon the expectations of ‎‎their respective ‎‎‎college or school and any additional activities involving service to students and their ‎‎professional ‎‎‎discipline. ‎

Faculty attain the rank of Associate Professor based upon scholarly and professional achievements ‎‎subsequent to ‎‎attaining the rank of assistant professor. An earned doctoral degree from an accredited ‎‎institution in an ‎‎area relevant to the faculty member’s area of teaching or a terminal professional ‎‎master’s degree or ‎‎evidence of outstanding contributions in the faculty member’s professional or ‎‎academic field (e.g., as ‎‎recognized by one’s peers, nationally) is required. ‎ ‎

Associate Professors are contracted for 10, 11, or 12 months (24, 27, or 30 load hours, respectively). ‎‎Release from contracted teaching load is determined each semester by the Dean, per the Liberty University Faculty Handbook.

Job-Specific Details

The Public Health Department within the School of Health Sciences at Liberty University invites applications for an Associate Professor faculty position in Public Health beginning in Fall 2027.  Completion of Ph.D. is expected prior to the date of hire. The successful candidate will be a broadly trained public health scholar-practitioner who can teach across the BS, MPH, MSPH, and DrPH curriculum and contribute to the continued growth of the Department’s residential, undergraduate and graduate programs. The ideal candidate will demonstrate teaching and scholarly strength in public health, including epidemiology, biostatistics, chronic disease prevention and control, and population health. The candidate should also bring a focused area of expertise that aligns with one or more of Liberty University’s residential DrPH emphasis areas: Maternal and Child Health, Public Health Practice, or Health Policy, Leadership, and Management.

This position is intended for a faculty member who is committed to excellent teaching, student-centered mentoring, applied public health scholarship, Christian worldview integration, and collaborative service.

Qualifications:  

  • Master’s degree in public health or closely related field is required. 
  • PhD in Public Health or DrPH is required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in teaching courses in public health, including but not limited to epidemiology, biostatistics, chronic disease, population health, leadership, public health practice, or related areas, required.
  • Previous experience in teaching a variety of introductory and upper-level lectures and mentoring both undergraduate and graduate students in research, is required.
  • Advanced training beyond the PhD, e.g., Postdoc, industry, etc., is highly preferred. 
  • Experience developing curriculum, revising courses, leading assessment efforts, or supporting program growth in public health education, is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience with accreditation including self-study preparation, competency-based curriculum mapping, assessment planning, evidence management, annual reporting, or continuous quality improvement, is preferred.
  • Strong collaborative skills and the ability to work collegially.  
  • Desire and ability to teach and develop courses aligned with one or more DrPH emphasis areas: Maternal and Child Health; Public Health Practice; or Health Policy, Leadership, and Management, is preferred.
  • Must be committed to the evangelical standards and mission of Liberty University.
