Reporting to the Development Supervisor – Mining, the Blaster Helper is responsible for assisting the lead blaster with all tasks related to handling, transporting & loading explosives as well as occasionally assisting dewatering and pit utility crews.

Location: Blackwater Mine site

 

Schedule: Two (2) Weeks On – Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Blaster with the preparation, loading, and firing of production and development blasts

  • Transport, handle, and stage explosives and blasting accessories in accordance with applicable regulations and company procedures

  • Prepare blast holes for loading, including cleaning and measuring holes as required

  • Help establish and maintain blast exclusion zones, signage, and security during blasting activities

  • Support the safe storage, inventory, and documentation of explosives and blasting materials

  • Maintain blasting equipment, tools, and vehicles in a clean and serviceable condition

  • Work closely with Drill Operators, Mine Operations, and other departments to ensure blasting activities are completed safely and efficiently

  • Follow all health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements

  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and ongoing training

  • May be required to maintain a clean-shaven appearance (i.e. no facial hair) to ensure the safe and effective use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) associated with assigned duties

Qualifications

 

  • Previous experience in surface mining, construction, or blasting operations is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of safe explosive handling practices and mining safety procedures is an asset
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and work effectively under the direction of a certified Blaster
  • Physically fit and capable of lifting heavy materials and working in a demanding outdoor environment
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work a rotational schedule in a remote camp environment
  • Willingness to learn and follow instructions from experienced team members
  • High school diploma preferred
  • Valid driver's license preferred
  • Ability to work at a remote location camp on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation

  • Comfortable working and living in close quarters with the team

  • Ability to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shift

  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Ability to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift

  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
