About this role

About the role

Aalo Atomics is building modular nuclear reactors to power the world's most demanding energy needs—from AI data centers to industrial sites. As a Build and Test Technician, you will be at the heart of turning designs into hardware. You will work hands-on with our engineering team to assemble, wire, integrate, and test reactor subsystems and supporting infrastructure. This is a fast-paced, high-ownership role for someone who thrives in a hardware-rich environment and takes pride in building things right the first time. You will move fluidly between the build floor and the test stand, helping bring prototypes to life and validating that they perform to spec. If you love working with your hands, solving problems on the fly, and being part of a team shipping serious hardware, this role is for you.

How You Will Contribute

  • Assemble mechanical, electrical, and fluid subsystems from engineering drawings, work instructions, and schematics.
  • Fabricate and route wiring harnesses, terminate connectors, and perform soldering and crimping to workmanship standards (e.g., IPC-A-610 / J-STD-001).
  • Install and integrate sensors, instrumentation, actuators, and control hardware onto test articles and reactor subsystems.
  • Set up and operate test stands, including plumbing, electrical hookups, data acquisition, and instrumentation calibration.
  • Execute test procedures, capture data, and clearly document results, anomalies, and as-built configurations.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical faults down to the component level and drive issues to resolution alongside engineers.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and precision measurement equipment (calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches, multimeters) safely and accurately.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-first work area, following all quality and safety protocols.
  • Provide feedback to design and manufacturing engineers to improve assembly processes, tooling, and hardware manufacturability.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience assembling and testing complex electromechanical hardware in a prototype, R&D, aerospace, automotive, energy, or similar hard-tech environment.
  • Strong hand tool proficiency—comfortable with wrenches, torque tools, drills, taps, and precision measurement instruments.
  • Solid electrical fundamentals: ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams, build harnesses, terminate connectors, solder, crimp, and troubleshoot circuits with a multimeter.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, GD&T, and assembly work instructions.
  • Experience with test setup and instrumentation (sensors, thermocouples, pressure transducers, data acquisition systems) is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with fluid systems (pneumatic/hydraulic plumbing, fittings, leak checking) is a plus.
  • Detail-oriented documentation habits and comfort logging data and as-built configurations.
  • Self-directed, adaptable, and able to prioritize in a rapidly changing environment.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certificate, associate degree, or military technical training preferred.
  • 2+ years of relevant hands-on build and test experience (or equivalent trade/military experience).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform work that may involve bending, kneeling, and working at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, occasional nights, and weekends to support critical build and test milestones.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any required site or nuclear facility access clearances.
  • Must be able to work safely around high-voltage systems, pressurized systems, and other industrial hazards, following all applicable safety standards.
  • Comfortable working on-site full-time in Austin, TX.
  • Due to the nature of our work, applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. and may be subject to export control (ITAR/EAR) and nuclear regulatory requirements.

What We Offer:

  • Paid Time Off
  • Corporate Gym Membership
