Job Summary


Reporting to the Team Leader of Community Living Services, the Senior Supportive Living/Community Worker works
collaboratively with the Director, Team Leaders, the CLS senior worker team, and the broader OneSky leadership
team. They work directly with participants as well as provide orientation, training, work direction and
mentorship to Supportive Living and Community Resource Workers under the guidance of the Team Leaders of
Community Living Services.


They are responsible to empower and support persons with disabilities as valued, contributing citizens in
inclusive communities, assisting participants to live successfully in their community and home, and ensuring that
their physical, emotional, social, educational, and medical needs are met. The Senior Supportive Living/Community
Worker assists participants to enhance their quality of life with activities of daily living and the development of
life skills.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under the guidance of the Team Leader, works collaboratively with other Senior Workers to provide orientation,
    training, work direction and guidance to Supportive Living and Community Resource Workers by performing
    duties such as clarifying existing policies, reviewing work, improving operations to enhance the development
    of participants, and scheduling staff when immediate needs arise.
  • Oversees the day-to-day activities of staff and the program’s worksite, as directed.
  • Takes part in the CLS on-call rotation as scheduled. This includes fielding after-hours calls from staff at CLS
    houses, and Inclusion programs that are experiencing such things as situations requiring emergency services,
    critical incident reporting as per OneSky and CLBC policy, emergency repairs and staff absences.
  • Has a service orientation, participating in the assessment, goal setting and program planning (Personal
    Service Plan) for individuals accessing services.
  • Documents, implements and provides input into the evaluation of the program.
  • Provides input to staff performance evaluations and development.
  • Provides life skills training such as meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care skills and personal
    finance, and implements personal service plans.
  • Promotes an atmosphere of collaboration, teamwork and cooperation.
  • Assists participants with activities of daily living such as feeding, hygiene, grooming and toileting.
  • Participates in various participant-focused activities in accordance with care plans.
  • Recognizes, prioritizes, analyzes and deals with potential emergency situations such as participants’
    aggressive behaviour to ensure no harm comes to the participant and/or the public. Reports problems to
    the Team Leader. 
  • Administers medication to participants in accordance with established policy.
  • Assists with case management by identifying potential problems and reporting any difficulties. Provides
    input to counsellors or other professional with regard to the development of appropriate program plans to
    achieve participants’ objectives. Contributes to the evaluation of participants’ progress and prepares
    reports.
  • Provides emotional support and feedback to participants and their families.
  • Transports and assists participants to appointments, shopping or leisure activities.
  • Maintains reports such as statistics, logbooks, and daily activities on participants.
  • Identifies social, economic, recreational and educational services in the community that will meet
    participants’ needs.
  • Performs light residence maintenance and housekeeping duties including but not limited to laundry,
    sweeping, mopping floors, mowing lawns, inventory, shopping, and food services.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Certificate in a related human / social service / community living field.
  • Minimum two (2) years recent related experience
  • Leadership experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of computer software such as Outlook, Word, Excel and ShareVision
  • Highly developed sense of confidentiality as well as communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills
    are a must
  • Time management, change management, conflict management and adaptability are an asset
  • Ability to both work autonomously and follow direction.
