Summary
Registered Nurse, RN plans and implements professional nursing care for patients in accordance with hospital polices. Works as a Charge Nurse with duties as assigned.Major Job Functions
The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:
Completes daily patient assignments
Rounds with the physicians
Serve as resource to staff nurses, nursing assistants, monitors techs and unit secretaries
Assists with procedures, checks orders
Responsible for daily QC and equipment checks on unit
Evaluates daily patient acuity
Focuses on patient flow and expediting patient flow
Responsible for the over site of quality of patient care
Assists with clinical education of staff members in the absence of Clinical Educator/Preceptor.
Interfaces with Care Coordinator and discharge planning
Expected to take patient assignment when other staffing options have been exhausted
Expedites testing, admission and discharges
Implement process as defined by the Hospital Innovation Project (HIP)
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
Education and Formal Training:
Associate’s degree in nursing required
Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred
Licensed as RN by the NC Board of Nursing or qualifies to function under another Compact State RN license
Unit Description:
- Main Emergency Department is a 64-bed adult level III trauma unit. Working on a track schedule.
- Patient ratio 1:3.
- Our Care team consists of Registered Nurses, a Clinical Educator, Nursing Assistant's, Unit Secretary, Resource Nurses, Physicians, Physician’s Assistant, Case Managers, Physical Therapists, Dieticians and Occupational and Speech Therapists, Charge Nurses
- New Graduate Nurses are accepted and welcome!
Work Experience:
- 3-5 years of direct ED experience
- Asthma exacerbations
- Diabetic Ketoacidosis
- Fever
- Seizures
- Sickle Cell Crisis
- Respiratory Complaints (RSV, pneumonia)
- Sepsis
- Syncope, near syncope
- Post op complaints
- Ear Infections
- Appendicitis
- Trauma-related injuries
- Lacerations
- Procedural Sedations
- Abuse and Sexual Assaults
- Strep throat & Tonsillitis
- Abdominal pain
- Various related emergencies pertaining to adults
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Interpersonal skills
Effective organizational, teaching, and leadership skills
Physical Requirements:
Visual and auditory acuity required
Ability to articulate clearly and succinctly
Much standing, walking, bending, and lifting
Position may involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
