About this role

Chief Product Engineer, MCI Coach

Position Summary

At Motor Coach Industries (MCI), we build industry-leading motor coaches that move people safely, reliably, and comfortably across North America.

We are seeking a strategic and technically accomplished Chief Product Engineer to serve as the senior engineering leader responsible for the technical vision, performance, and lifecycle success of the MCI coach platform.

This highly visible leadership role provides single-point accountability for product-level engineering decisions, system integration, customer-focused technical leadership, and long-term platform evolution. Working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Service Operations, and Product Leadership, the Chief Product Engineer ensures product decisions align with customer needs, business objectives, and the future direction of the MCI product portfolio.

What You'll Do

As the Chief Product Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across the entire coach platform lifecycle, from concept and development through production and field support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own overall technical accountability for the MCI coach platform throughout its lifecycle.
  • Own and communicate the technical vision for the coach platform, ensuring alignment with customer expectations, market requirements, and long-term product strategy.
  • Define and maintain product architecture, performance targets, and system integration strategies.
  • Lead alignment across New Product Development, Production Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Business Systems, and other supporting functions.
  • Serve as the voice of the customer within Engineering and act as the final engineering authority on major product-level technical tradeoffs and architecture decisions.
  • Drive critical decisions involving customer value, cost, quality, reliability, manufacturability, maintainability, performance, and schedule.
  • Lead resolution of complex engineering challenges, product-level issues, and technical risks across the platform.
  • Guide product evolution, major design changes, and future technology adoption.
  • Partner with Supply Chain to align supplier strategies, technology choices, and sourcing decisions with long-term product architecture and customer requirements.
  • Represent MCI as the senior technical leader for the coach platform with customers, suppliers, industry associations, regulatory organizations, and key stakeholders.

What You Bring

You are a respected engineering leader who understands how complex products come together and can influence cross-functional teams to achieve exceptional results.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng.) or eligibility for registration is considered an asset.
  • 10+ years of progressive engineering experience in product development, vehicle engineering, or other complex engineered products.
  • Experience leading major vehicle programs, platforms, or complex multidisciplinary engineering initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of heavy vehicle, transportation, automotive, aerospace, industrial equipment, or similarly complex systems.
  • Exceptional systems-thinking and product integration capabilities.
  • Strong executive communication, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to influence outcomes and lead through collaboration rather than direct authority.

Why Join MCI?

This is an opportunity to directly influence the future of one of North America’s most recognized coach brands.

At MCI, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Shape the future of premium motor coach technology.
  • Influence product strategy and long-term platform evolution.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders across Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Service, and Operations.
  • Serve as a visible technical leader with customers and industry stakeholders.
  • Solve complex technical challenges with real-world impact.
  • Play a key role in innovation, reliability, and customer success.

Ready to lead the next generation of MCI coaches? We'd love to hear from you
