Children’s Program Coordinator Term

End Date:  March 31, 2028 

Salary:  Level 7 Step 1 ($3,410.25 bi-weekly)

Reporting to the Kʼäjìt-in Zho Manager, the incumbent implements and coordinates developmental, social, recreational and cultural program activities for TH children aged 8 to 12. Programs include the Summer Youth Camp Program during the summer school break and the After-School Program during the school year. The incumbent identifies and develops daily programs and activities that support children to develop personal competencies such as life skills, self-confidence and self-awareness, social and relationship skills, group interaction and conflict resolution capabilities, problem-solving and leadership skills, and opportunities to learn traditional knowledge and explore TH culture. The incumbent ensures the delivery of programming activities through a mentorship approach with the assistance of TH Elders, Citizens and community supports. 

 

An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:  

  • Post-secondary diploma in child and youth care, education, recreation, social work or related field, with one year of relevant work experience; an equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge and skills may be considered. 
  • Knowledge of child and youth development, mental wellness and restorative theories and processes. 
  • Knowledge of holistic case management and referral processes for local counseling services and supports. 
  • Experience or training in the design and delivery of youth recreational programming. 
  • Experience coaching or mentoring youth. 
  • Knowledge of, and ability to work constructively with, at-risk youth with special needs or behavioural challenges. 
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, TH structures, culture, traditions, history, demographics, family structures, socio-economic dynamics, challenges and aspirations, basic phrases of the Hän language and the intergenerational impacts of residential schools on individuals, families, and communities. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint) and Zoom. 

 

Assets:  

  • Experience working with pre-adolescent children in a summer camp, outdoor education program, extracurricular or after-school program environment. 
  • Experience supervising staff. 
  • Training in suicide prevention and intervention. 

 

Conditions of Employment: 

  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening. 
  • Class 5 Driver’s license with clear driver’s abstract, with a Class 4 Driver’s license an asset. 
  • Standard First Aid Certification and Remote First Aid (or willingness to obtain). 
  • WHMIS and Food Safe Certification.  
  • TH101 Cultural Awareness training.
