Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Neonatal Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), you will help Mercy San Juan Medical Center's nursing staff by advancing the practice of nursing and fostering professional development within our 40-bed Level III NICU so staff can provide the highest quality evidence-based care to our most vulnerable patients. 

 

Every day you will lead clinical activities and projects, apply advanced clinical expertise and promote evidence-based practices within the neonatal department. You will be expected to role model critical thinking, sound nursing judgment, effective communication and strong teamwork.

 

To be successful in this role you must possess advanced clinical expertise specific to neonatal care, a deep understanding of evidence-based practice, and proven abilities in collaboration, consultation, education, mentoring, and change leadership.

 

  • Provides clinical expertise to the nursing unit and programs
  • Mentors staff in their professional growth
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current research and evaluates the results into clinical practice 
  • Participates in community education, lectures to schools, institutions and professional groups/organizations. 
  • Participates in program and or project development

Job Requirements

Required

  • Master's degree in Nursing 
  • Five (5) years of clinical experience as an RN in NICU (Level III) 
  • Current CA Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) certification with a specialty in Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU)
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification - American Heart Association

Preferred

  • Current RNC (Registered Nurse Certified) certification 
  • Two (2) years of experience as a NICU Clinical Nurse Specialist
