This role is primarily responsible for setting and operating computer numerical controlled, (CNC), lathes to the required performance level in accordance with company policies, standards and procedures, with an ability to program machines within two of the defined programming groups, when required.  The individual is expected to interact with internal and external clients with respect to production planning, problem resolution and process improvement.

Specific Responsibility:  

Reviews drawings sketches and specs to obtain information about dimensions, tolerances and number of work pieces to be machined to complete work orders and meet customer requirements for quality and delivery.

Sets and operates CNC lathes to the required performance level in accordance with company policies, standards and procedures, with an ability to program machines within two of the defined programming groups, when required.

Examines machine to become familiar with tooling set up, changes tool offsets to keep dimensions within specified drawing tolerances and according to SPC results.

Ability to program CNC lathe to on machines which do not have DNC access or when the programmer is not available.

Performs in-process inspection including key characteristics (KC) using a wide variety of measuring devices, including both contact and none contact CMM’s, conventional measuring equipment and shadowgraphs, recording all measurements on QDS.

Ability to problem solve minor problems on their own initiative, making recommendations when appropriate and program modifications as required.

De-burrs parts with minimal disruption to workflow that could slow down or stop production.

Completes and maintains all necessary records, e.g. time, part counts, last piece inspections etc.

Inform the Cell Lead or Production Supervisor of any machinery or material problems, which could slow down or stop production.

Maintains work area in a safe, clean and orderly manner.  This includes conforming to AS9100 quality standards and Health & Safety at Work Act requirements (1974).

The individual works as a proactive member of the Self Directed Work Team, performing duties as assigned by the team and supporting others on technical issues when needed.  The individual participates in job rotation and cross training activities, helping to ensure success of the Self Directed Team.

Participates in Lean Six Sigma and leads/supports other to identify and documents process improvement activities when required.


Required Minimum Qualifications: 
Education: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience

Skills and Experience

Experience of setting, operating and programming within a Manufacturing environment.
Ability to use measuring equipment and interpret drawings.
Working knowledge of CNC machines to understand how to alter tooling offsets on the machines.
Ability to use required gauges or instruments.
Working knowledge of mathematics in a manufacturing environment.
Ability to work well in a team environment.
Good communication skills.
