About this role

About Etched

Etched is building hardware for frontier intelligence. We co-design chips, racks, software, and manufacturing to deliver best-in-class throughput and latency across both prefill and decode workloads. Our first products are heavily focused on inference. Backed by hundreds of millions from top-tier investors and staffed by leading engineers, Etched is redefining the infrastructure layer for the fastest growing industry in history.

Job Summary

Etched is looking for a founding member of the Communications team to produce deeply researched technical writing about AI, inference, compute, and the infrastructure behind frontier models. You will work directly with our engineers and leadership to develop original points of view, explain complex technical ideas, and write pieces that technical audiences genuinely want to read. Your work will range from long-form technical analysis and product launches to customer stories, technical briefs, and writing for Etched leaders. This role will help define how engineers, customers, candidates, and the broader AI industry understand Etched and the technology we are building.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and write long-form technical pieces on AI models, inference, compute, chips, systems, and AI infrastructure.

  • Develop clear, original points of view on major technical developments and changes in the AI industry.

  • Analyze new model releases and other industry events to identify what matters for Etched and the broader inference ecosystem.

  • Own writing for major Etched product launches, technical announcements, and company milestones.

  • Ghostwrite technical and strategic pieces for Etched leadership.

  • Work directly with engineers to turn technical insights, data, and internal expertise into compelling written arguments.

  • Write customer case studies, technical briefs, and other materials that help customers understand Etched.

  • Create technical content for X and other channels where engineers, researchers, customers, and candidates spend time.

  • Develop charts, diagrams, benchmarks, and other visuals that strengthen technical arguments.

  • Identify important stories and ideas for Etched to write about without waiting for a fully developed brief.

  • Help establish a recognizable point of view and standard for technical writing across Etched.

You may be a good fit if you have

  • Exceptional writing ability, particularly when explaining complex technical subjects.

  • Experience producing substantive long-form writing, technical analysis, research, or similarly rigorous written work.

  • Strong research skills and the ability to develop an original argument from technical information, data, and primary sources.

  • The technical aptitude to quickly understand topics across AI models, inference, accelerators, distributed systems, and AI infrastructure.

  • Ability to interview engineers and subject matter experts, ask precise questions, and identify the most important or surprising parts of a technical discussion.

  • Strong editorial judgment and a high bar for what is interesting, clear, and worth publishing.

  • Ability to write for different formats and audiences, from detailed technical analysis to concise posts for X.

  • Deep familiarity with the technical conversations happening across AI and the ability to recognize which developments actually matter.

  • Ability to independently take a piece from an initial idea through research, drafting, editing, and publication.

  • A portfolio of writing that demonstrates clear thinking, technical depth, and strong judgment.

Strong candidates may also have experience with

  • A technical background in computer science, electrical engineering, machine learning, distributed systems, semiconductors, or a related field.

  • Writing about AI models, inference, GPUs, ASICs, datacenters, networking, or other areas of AI infrastructure.

  • Experience as an engineer, researcher, technical writer, journalist, analyst, or investor covering deeply technical subjects.

  • Developing data-driven arguments using benchmarks, charts, models, or other quantitative analysis.

  • Writing for technical founders, executives, or other subject matter experts.

  • Producing technical launch content or working closely with product and engineering teams around major releases.

  • Building an audience for technical ideas through X, blogs, newsletters, or other online communities.

  • Working in a fast-moving technical environment where the most important story can change quickly.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision packages with generous premium coverage

    • $500 per month credit for waiving medical benefits

  • Housing subsidy of $2k per month for those living within walking distance of the office

  • Relocation support for those moving to San Jose (Santana Row)

  • Various wellness benefits covering fitness, mental health, and more

  • Daily lunch and dinner in our office

  • Unlimited compute budget subject to ROI justification

How we’re different

Etched believes in the Bitter Lesson. We are the first inference-focused frontier AI system, betting early on transformer and transformer-like architectures and on increasing model sizes. Our addressable market is the entirety of inference, unlike many of our competitors.

We are a fully in-person team in San Jose (Santana Row), and greatly value engineering skills. We do not have boundaries between engineering and research, and we expect all of our technical staff to contribute to both and work across disciplines as needed.
