Community Navigator (H.O.P.E. Baltimore) - ACC Member

The American Connection Corps (ACC), an AmeriCorps program of Lead For America (LFA), is a service fellowship program aimed at helping communities build the digital connectivity necessary to expand opportunity and economic mobility, ranging from healthcare access to quality employment.

ACC Members spend a year serving with locally-rooted organizations, helping address the digital divide and strengthen access to opportunity. Through their service, they gain hands-on experience, build in-demand skills, and explore career pathways while making a tangible impact in their communities.

About H.O.P.E. Baltimore

H.O.P.E. was built to meet that reality head-on, by people who've faced it themselves. Our mentors come from the same Baltimore neighborhoods as our members, and that lived experience shapes everything we do: we walk alongside members through financial counseling, job placement, and transportation support, backed by direct financial help like housing assistance, and emergency aid for members who stay engaged. It's support built by people who know exactly what's needed, because they needed it too.

Position Overview

The AmeriCorps Member will serve with H.O.P.E. Baltimore to strengthen participant engagement and improve access to supportive services through intake support, resource navigation, and follow-up activities. The Member will assist the Intake Specialist by supporting participant intake documentation, conducting 90-day follow-up contacts to assess participant progress and needs, connecting participants with appropriate community resources, and researching new community-based resources that expand opportunities and services for participants.

Throughout the 11 months, the Member will help improve participant access to services, enhance the quality and organization of participant records, and strengthen community partnerships that support positive participant outcomes. The Member will serve under the supervision of HOPE Baltimore staff and will not perform duties that displace employees or engage in prohibited AmeriCorps activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Intake Specialist by assisting with the organization, review, and completion of participant intake documentation to help ensure records are accurate, complete, and entered in a timely manner.
• Conduct 90-day follow-up contacts with participants to document progress, identify current needs, and update participant status in accordance with program procedures.
• Maintain accurate documentation of participant interactions, referrals, and follow-up activities using program-approved tracking systems while protecting participant confidentiality.
• Connect participants to appropriate community resources, including employment services, education and training opportunities, housing resources, transportation assistance, healthcare, food assistance, financial literacy programs, and other supportive services based on participant needs.
• Research and identify new community resources, service providers, and partnership opportunities that expand available supports for H.O.P.E. Baltimore participants.
• Develop and maintain an up-to-date community resource directory for staff and participant use.
• Communicate professionally with participants, community partners, and H.O.P.E. Baltimore staff to facilitate referrals and improve access to services.
• Assist in identifying barriers participants experience when accessing services and share observations and recommendations with program staff to improve service delivery.
• Collect, compile, and organize service-related data, participant feedback, referral activity, and resource information for staff review and program reporting in accordance with program procedures.
• Participate in required AmeriCorps orientations, trainings, team meetings, and professional development activities.
• Complete all required AmeriCorps service documentation, timesheets, and reporting requirements accurately and on time.
• Demonstrate commitment to national service by providing respectful, inclusive, and participant-centered service to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Perform other duties as assigned that are directly related to the approved AmeriCorps position description, program scope, and allowable AmeriCorps service activities, under staff supervision.

All functions and activities performed by the AmeriCorps Member are completed under the guidance, supervision, and direction of program and host site staff.

Learning & Development Opportunities

As an ACC Member, you will receive structured training and support throughout your service year, including: 

• A two-week-long virtual orientation with the national cohort to kick off the service year.
• A week-long, in-person national Winter Institute convening with your ACC cohort — travel, lodging, and a per diem stipend are fully covered.
• Twice-monthly virtual training on skills for service, including project management, asset-based community development, grant writing, and serving vulnerable populations, plus self-paced curricula with opportunities to earn badges and credentials.
• A structured community listening tour at the start of service to understand local needs, assets, and opportunities.
• Dedicated 1:1 support from a Lead For America Program Coordinator and twice-monthly peer pod meetings for networking and professional development.
• Access to a national network of ACC Members, alumni, and community partners.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Interest in gaining experience in community development or digital inclusion.

Eligibility:

• Be a U.S. Citizen, National, or Lawful Permanent Resident.
• Hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Be 18-24 years of age.
• Have not already served four (4) or more AmeriCorps State/National terms. 

Timeline:

We are currently recruiting Members to serve from September 8th, 2026 - August 13th, 2027. Members will serve full-time (approximately 40 hours per week), completing 1700 hours of service over the course of the term.

Full-time ACC Members receive: 

• A $33,000 living stipend (dispersed bi-weekly over the course of the service term)
• A $7,395 Segal Education Award through AmeriCorps, which can be applied to education-related expenses after the program concludes (including repayment of qualifying student loans).
