About this role

About Solace

Healthcare in the U.S. is fundamentally broken. The system is so complex that 88% of U.S. adults do not have the health literacy necessary to navigate it without help. Solace cuts through the red tape of healthcare by pairing patients with expert advocates and giving them the tools to make better decisions—and get better outcomes.

We're a Series C startup, founded in 2022 and backed by Inspired Capital, Craft Ventures, Torch Capital, Menlo Ventures, Signalfire, and IVP. Our U.S. based team is lean, mission-driven, and growing quickly.

Solace isn't a place to coast. We're here to redefine healthcare—and that demands urgency, precision, and heart. If you're looking to stretch yourself, sharpen your edge, and do the best work of your life alongside a team that cares deeply, you're in the right place. We’re intense, and we like it that way.

About the Role

At Solace, we operate at the center of one of the most complex systems in the country. Our platform supports patients navigating diagnoses, insurance battles, and care coordination across all 50 states. Compliance is not a back-office function here, it is core to how we earn and maintain trust with patients, advocates, and partners.

As Compliance Counsel, you'll provide legal and regulatory judgment on how Solace operates within healthcare law while enabling the speed and ownership that make our advocates effective. Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Compliance, you'll take ambiguous, fragmented requirements across federal programs (including Medicare), state regulations, and privacy laws, and turn them into guidance, policy, and systems the company can actually run on.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide legal and regulatory analysis on HIPAA, Medicare, Medicaid, and state healthcare requirements, translating complex requirements into clear, practical guidance for business and operational teams.

  • Partner with the Director of Compliance to assess regulatory risks, develop compliance strategies, and advise on emerging issues across the company’s products, services, and operating model.

  • Advise cross-functional teams, including Product, Engineering, Clinical Operations, Revenue Cycle, and Provider Operations, on compliance requirements for new products, features, workflows, and business initiatives before launch.

  • Execute compliance reviews, audits, and monitoring activities related to Medicare, payer programs, HIPAA, and other healthcare regulatory requirements, including evidence collection, documentation review, issue identification, and remediation planning.

  • Draft and maintain compliance policies, procedures, playbooks, and training materials that reflect regulatory requirements and evolving business practices.

  • Help embed compliance requirements directly into operational processes, product workflows, and system controls by partnering closely with business and technical stakeholders.

  • Review vendor agreements, business associate agreements, and other commercial arrangements for healthcare regulatory and compliance considerations.

  • Support investigations, risk assessments, and remediation efforts involving potential compliance concerns, including billing, documentation, privacy, and operational issues.

  • Monitor and research regulatory developments, CMS guidance, state healthcare regulations, and enforcement trends, and translate their impact into actionable recommendations for the Director of Compliance and business teams.

  • Support the development and continuous improvement of the company’s compliance program, including risk assessments, monitoring plans, reporting, and governance activities.

What You Bring

  • J.D. and active bar admission in at least one U.S. state.

  • 3–6 years of experience in compliance or regulatory legal practice, with a strong preference for healthcare compliance.

  • Comfort operating in ambiguity, especially in environments where regulation and business models are evolving.

  • Experience supporting audits, investigations, monitoring activities, and compliance program operations.

  • Strong judgment - you know how to balance legal risk, regulatory integrity, and business velocity.

  • Detail orientation without losing sight of the practical goal.

  • Nice to have: familiarity with CMS programs, Medicare billing requirements, healthcare documentation standards, or healthcare privacy law.

Applicants must be based in the United States.
