Join the Department of Conservation (DOC) as our Facilities Officer and play a vital role in creating a safe, efficient and welcoming workplace for the teams who protect New Zealand's unique environment. 

As the Facilities Officer, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day management of Conservation House, ensuring building services, maintenance, health and safety, security and compliance are delivered to a high standard. Acting as the key point of contact for staff, contractors, the building owner and service providers, you'll build strong relationships, resolve issues quickly and identify opportunities to enhance the workplace experience. You'll work closely with the National Property and Fleet team, Business Shared Services teams, Wellington-based staff and external partners to ensure Conservation House remains a safe, sustainable and fit-for-purpose environment. 

The position will be focussed on: 

  • Lead the day-to-day facilities management of Conservation House, coordinating maintenance, contractor services and building operations. 

  • Act as the primary point of contact for workplace issues, ensuring requests and building-related matters are resolved efficiently and professionally. 

  • Support a safe and compliant workplace through health and safety initiatives, business continuity planning, security management and emergency preparedness. 

  • Coordinate staff and equipment relocations, while identifying and implementing improvements to facilities processes and services. 

  • Build strong relationships with staff, contractors, building owners and service providers to deliver exceptional customer-focused facilities support. 

This role requires you to be in the office every day and on-duty every second week for after-hours facilities calls, for which you will receive an allowance.

  • Experience in facilities, property or building management, including maintenance, compliance and contractor coordination. 

  • Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and with external suppliers. 

  • Sound judgement and problem-solving abilities, with confidence making timely decisions and managing competing priorities. 

  • A customer-focused approach, anticipating needs and delivering practical solutions. 

  • Knowledge of health and safety practices, emergency management and workplace security systems. 

  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, with strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality outcomes. 

  • A continuous improvement mindset, with the initiative to identify efficiencies and enhance workplace services. 

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, including an understanding of working in partnership with tangata whenua.

Salary: $65,590.00 - $82,000.00, depending on skills and experience. 

Eligibility: You must hold a valid NZ work visa that covers the duration of employment.
