Position OverviewÂ
We are seeking an experienced Controller/Accounting Manager to oversee our financial operations across a complex multi-entity structure. This role will manage accounting functions for 3 operating companies and over 40 real estate entities, requiring the ability to seamlessly navigate between entities while maintaining accurate records and compliance for each. The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting skills, exceptional organizational abilities, experience with multi-entity accounting, and the leadership skills to supervise our accounting team.Â
Key ResponsibilitiesÂ
Financial Reporting & ComplianceÂ
- Prepare accurate quarterly financial statements for 3 operating entities and over 40 real estate entities in accordance with GAAPÂ
- Coordinate and oversee year-end tax preparation with external accountants across all entitiesÂ
- Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes for multiple entities simultaneouslyÂ
- Maintain separate books and records for each entity while ensuring consistency in accounting policiesÂ
Team LeadershipÂ
- Supervise and mentor bookkeeper, providing guidance and delegating tasks effectivelyÂ
- Review and approve work completed by accounting staffÂ
- Foster a collaborative and productive team environmentÂ
Accounting OperationsÂ
- Post accounts payable transactions across all entities and ensure proper expense coding and classification for eachÂ
- Post accounts receivable transactions and monitor customer accounts for operating entitiesÂ
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and credit card reconciliations for all entitiesÂ
- Maintain accurate and organized general ledgers for 40+ entitiesÂ
- Track and properly allocate shared expenses across entitiesÂ
Financial Planning & AnalysisÂ
- Oversee the annual budgeting process across all entities and coordinate with department headsÂ
- Project and monitor cash flow across operating and real estate entities to ensure adequate liquidityÂ
- Provide consolidated and entity-level cash management recommendations to leadershipÂ
- Manage complex intercompany transactions and notes between 40+ entities, ensuring proper documentation, reconciliation, and elimination entriesÂ
- Monitor intercompany balances and ensure timely settlement of intercompany accountsÂ
Process ImprovementÂ
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes across multiple entities and improve efficiencyÂ
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets across all entitiesÂ
- Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards for each entityÂ
- Develop systems and procedures to efficiently manage high-volume multi-entity accountingÂ
Multi-Entity ManagementÂ
- Seamlessly navigate between 3 operating companies and 40+ real estate entities dailyÂ
- Maintain organizational systems to track deadlines, requirements, and activities across all entitiesÂ
- Ensure proper segregation and accurate record-keeping for each individual entityÂ
- Coordinate entity-specific compliance requirements and reporting deadlinesÂ
Required QualificationsÂ
- Number of years of progressive accounting experienceÂ
- Proven experience managing accounting for multiple legal entities (10+ entities preferred)Â
- Experience with real estate accounting and property management financials strongly preferredÂ
- 2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experienceÂ
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial statement preparationÂ
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft ExcelÂ
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliationsÂ
- Solid understanding of budgeting and cash flow management across multiple entitiesÂ
- Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities across numerous entitiesÂ
- Strong attention to detail with ability to maintain accuracy in high-volume, complex environmentÂ
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilitiesÂ
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbalÂ
- Ability to work independently and take initiativeÂ
QualificationsÂ
- CPA certificationÂ
- Experience with Rentmanager & QuickBooks Â
- Experience managing consolidated financial reporting for multiple entitiesÂ
- Knowledge of tax preparation and planning for real estate entitiesÂ
- Experience managing intercompany accounting in a multi-entity environment (40+ entities highly valued)Â
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling)Â
- Understanding of real estate partnership structures, K-1 preparation, and property-level accountingÂ
- Experience with entity management software or multi-entity ERP systemsÂ
- Background in real estate investment, development, or property managementÂ
