General Summary:

The Coordinator for Competitive Sports will be responsible for growing student participation in club sports and intramurals through recruiting, retention, student engagement, as well as operations management for all club sports and intramurals offered. As a member of the Rec Sports team, this person will also assist with intramural sports, student events and programs, and will help maintain the facilities in the Virgil Henson Activities Center as needed. Some night and weekend work will be required. Additional hours may be required during peak periods.

The salary range for this position is $35,568.00–$44,546.40 annually, based on education and experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Club Sport & Intramurals Recruiting & Student Retention
  • Develop and implement strategies to recruit and retain new and current students to participate in club sports and intramurals.
  • Provide metrics to demonstrate the contributions of club sports and intramural leagues to university recruiting, retention, and other strategic planning efforts.
  • Promote club sports and intramural opportunities through marketing on social media and University web site.
  • Club Sport & Intramurals Operations
  • Oversee budget allocations, fundraising, risk management, and policy/ procedure adherence.
  • Hire, train, schedule, evaluate, and supervise intramural officials and supervisors.
  • Coordinate all club sport travel arrangements as defined in travel policies.
  • Club Sport & Intramurals Student Engagement
  • Assist club sports leaders and advisors with planning, scheduling, and administering all competitive sports events, as well as marketing. 
  • Oversee competitive sports council, working with student leaders to develop and implement policies and procedures.
  • Develop new officers’ orientation.
  • Add new sport clubs and intramural leagues according to the interests of the student body and prospective students.
  • Conduct assessment of competitive sports programming and student learning activities.
  • Rec Sports Leadership Team.
  • Assist with intramural sports and event programming to support other aspects of programming in the Virgil Henson Activities Center.
  • Assist with setup and teardown for reservations or other programming events.
  • Maintain 100% compliance with timely completion of required System, University and job-specific online training courses.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One (1) year of related experience, including related supervisory experience.
  • Experience with recruiting or marketing.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record;  must be able to obtain a State of Texas Vehicle operator's license within 30 days of employment; and must qualify to operate a vehicle within the TAMUS guidelines.
  • CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Skilled at building community and student wellbeing through team and individual sports.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, with the ability to innovate to introduce and grow programs to serve additional students.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Knowledge of recreational programs and club sport management.
  • Strong marketing, interpersonal, leadership, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree.
  • Three (3) years of related experience, including related supervisory experience.
  • Experience with student development.
  • NIRSA Campus Recreation Student Affairs Certification or must obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Completion of the NIRSA Intramural & Club Sports Institute or must obtain within 30 days of employment.
