About this role

About Us
We’re a specialized construction partner providing civil, excavation, and environmental services throughout BC.

We’re forward-thinking, technology-driven, open-minded, collaborative, success-focused, and people-oriented. We love what we do, we believe in what we do, and we want every member of our team to be successful. We are growing. Fast.

About You
You take pride in doing things the right way and want to be part of a team that looks out for one another — where safety is part of how things get done, not an afterthought. You’re comfortable working in remote and northern environments, you carry yourself with professionalism in the field, and you understand the unique demands that come with working in BC’s northwest. You believe nothing we do is so important it can’t be done safely.

About the Role

As METRIC.’s CSO for the Terrace and Northwest BC region, you’ll be the safety lead on active civil construction sites — supporting crews, site supervisors, and subcontractors to maintain compliance and a strong safety culture. You’ll work across earthworks, utilities, and road construction projects throughout the region, and report to the Occupational Health & Safety Manager. This is a field-based role. You’ll be on-site daily, building relationships with crews, identifying hazards before they become incidents, and making sure every worker goes home safe.

What You’ll Do

Safety Program Support

  • Support the implementation of Metric’s Health and Safety Management System in compliance with WorkSafeBC and BC OHSR requirements
  • Assist in developing and maintaining project-specific safety plans, safe work procedures, and Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs)
  • Ensure safety documentation is current and maintained in accordance with WorkSafeBC record retention requirements

Site Inspections & Hazard Identification

  • Conduct daily and weekly site safety inspections to identify hazards and unsafe conditions
  • Monitor high-risk work activities including excavation and trenching, traffic control, heavy equipment operations, fall protection, confined space entry, and hot work
  • Report hazards to supervision and follow up to confirm corrective actions are completed

Worker Orientation & Training

  • Deliver site safety orientations for new workers, subcontractors, and visitors
  • Assist with toolbox talks, safety meetings, and task-specific safety briefings
  • Ensure workers understand their rights and responsibilities under the Workers Compensation Act

Incident Reporting & Investigation

  • Respond to workplace incidents and near misses
  • Participate in incident investigations in accordance with OHSR Part 3 requirements
  • Help identify root causes and corrective actions, and ensure reports are completed and submitted

Safety Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate safety records including inspection reports, hazard assessments, incident reports, first aid records, training records, and equipment inspection logs
  • Oversee Salus entries to ensure inspections, incidents, and corrective actions are properly documented

Emergency Preparedness

  • Support site emergency response procedures, drills, and evacuation planning
  • Ensure emergency equipment including first aid kits, eyewash stations, and fire extinguishers are available and maintained

What You Can Expect From Us

  • Competitive wage based on experience
  • Bonus program
  • Company vehicle or allowance
  • Extended medical/dental benefits
  • RRSP Matching
  • Paid training, certifications, and professional development
  • Full time, year-round work
  • A modern, innovative company culture
  • A strong commitment to safety

What We Need From You

  • Construction Safety Officer (CSO) certification recognized in BC (BCCSA / ASTTBC / equivalent)
  • Occupational First Aid Level 2 or Level 3
  • Working knowledge of the Workers Compensation Act and BC Occupational Health and Safety Regulations
  • Experience in civil construction or heavy civil projects (preferred)
  • Proficient with Salus or similar safety management platforms (asset)
  • Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract
  • Ability to work in an active outdoor construction environment
