About this role

Overview

Facilitators are an important part of the staff at USU-Tooele because they aid Interactive Video Broadcast (Connect) instructors and assist in the use of Zoom technology to ensure a beneficial learning environment. Our facilitators greet our students and staff with a smile, are eager to assist, and are trained to provide technology support to our instructors and build rapport. This part-time, non-benefitted position is housed on the Tooele Campus. The position hours and days may change each semester.

 

Morning Shift—Monday thru Friday—8:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Responsibilities

  • Check for e-mail correspondence from instructors and make copies of assignments and/or exams for students before classes begin.
  • Follow set up procedures for IVC broadcast classes and Zoom, and ensure that classes are ready for instruction 15 minutes before classes begin.
  • If there are problems with IVC classes or Zoom courses, troubleshoot the equipment and/or work with the VOC and facilitator lead to resolve the problems.
  • Maintain an atmosphere of learning, respect, productivity in the classroom while facilitating.
  • Communicate with professors and students in the classroom to assist with problems or concerns related to the classroom. Provide solutions and give feedback on how to better the classroom experience.
  • Proctor in-class exams and remain in class while the exam is being taken.
  • Collect homework, exams or any other correspondence to be sent to instructors.
  • Collect, process and return homework/assignments and exams in a prompt and confidential manner according to testing center practices.
  • Maintain accurate class rolls and attendance records when required by instructor.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Basic experience with computers.
  • Basic experience with how to navigate the Internet and use various types of email software.
  • Basic experience with how to use office equipment (printer, copiers, fax, scanner, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with customer service and knowledge of what is customer service.
  • Experience using Zoom program.
  • Experience with operating and troubleshooting broadcast equipment.
  • Completion of an IVC college class or other college coursework.
  • Experience using Canvas programs.
  • Experience in classroom facilitation.
  • Knowledge of how to use Microsoft Office programs.
  • Demonstrated success working with the general public and/or college students.
  • General knowledge of Utah State University policies and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Willingness to learn simple technology skills.
  • Ability to write effectively so that others can understand.
  • Ability to communicate effectively face-to-face, over the phone, on IVC equipment, and via electronic communication devices.
  • Must be dependable, punctual, able to maintain confidentiality of student information, and work with integrity.
