Key Responsibilities

  • Execute complex PMs and precision mechanical work on can-making and ancillary equipment per standards and safe practices.
  • Lead/support major overhauls: tear-down, inspection, measurement, rebuild, alignment, lubrication, and startup verification.
  • Support breakdowns: diagnose root causes, develop safe repair plans, and restore stable operation.
  • Perform advanced mechanical troubleshooting and document findings and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with Electricians/Controls, recognizing when support is required for safe, efficient repairs.
  • Work with Planning and Stores to review jobs, confirm parts/tools, and improve work packages.
  • Use eMaint to manage work orders, record work and measurements, and maintain accurate parts transactions.
  • Escalate equipment, safety, and quality risks; collaborate cross-functionally to resolve issues.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping, 5S, guarding, and workmanship.
  • Drive continuous improvement: enhance reliability, PMs, and share learnings.
  • Develop Maintainer-level capability within 12 months (operation support, setups, basic PMs, troubleshooting).
  • Complete onboarding/shadowing to learn equipment, QA, and site standards.
  • Demonstrate strong craftsmanship, safe habits, and proactive learning.

Safety & Compliance (Non‑Negotiable)

  • Adhere to all safety procedures at all times; stop work and escalate unsafe conditions.
  • Apply LOTO and verify zero energy before working on equipment.
  • Maintain proper guarding, use tools safely, and never bypass safety devices.
  • Follow PPE, working-at-heights, housekeeping, and hazard reporting requirements.
  • Comply with quality standards and prevent contamination

Qualifications

  • Licensed Industrial Millwright and/or Machinist (Red Seal or equivalent).

  • Strong mechanical fundamentals: bearings, lubrication, drives, gearboxes, pneumatics/hydraulics, alignment, precision measurement, and rigging.
  • Practical fabrication/repair skills: welding, drilling, grinding, and use of shop equipment; manual machining (lathe, drill press, mills) is an asset.

  • Committed to safety, procedures, and continuous improvement.
  • Proficient with digital systems for work orders and parts (e.g., Emaint).

Preferred

  • Prior experience with metal packaging/can making equipment or other high-speed converting/packaging equipment.
