POSITION PURPOSE:
Provides developmental, speech, language, hearing, vision, social/emotional, and behavioral initial screening services to preschool children referred by their parents, pediatricians, teachers, and Project Enlightenment staff due to developmental concerns. Consults with early childhood teachers and directors, as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
- Extensive knowledge of early childhood programs and child development practices;
- Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel; Google Apps;
- Excellent customer service skills;
- Critical thinking and problem solving skills;
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
- Ability to work in a team environment; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, external agencies, and the community.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in education, child development, or related field;
- Five years of experience working with young children and their families;
- Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
- Must hold or be eligible for a North Carolina professional educator’s license in a teaching area;
- Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of North Carolina requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in education, school psychology, child development or related field;
- Hold or be eligible for a North Carolina professional educator’s license in the teaching area of birth to kindergarten or elementary education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, copiers, and scanners. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force.
