About this role

The Director of FP&A will serve as a strategic finance leader responsible for driving financial planning, operational performance analysis, and decision support across the company's community solar and Nautilus Solar Energy’s other activities. This role partners closely with Operations, Asset Management, Community Solar, Development, Capital Markets, and Executive Leadership to deliver actionable insights that support growth, profitability, and capital efficiency.

In addition to traditional FP&A responsibilities, the Director will lead the integration of artificial intelligence and advanced analytics into the finance function, transforming forecasting, reporting, budgeting, and business intelligence processes. The ideal candidate combines strong renewable energy industry experience with operational finance expertise, intellectual curiosity, and a passion for leveraging technology to improve decision-making.

 

Responsibilities:

Strategic Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Lead annual budgeting, long-range planning, quarterly forecasting, and monthly performance reporting processes for NSE and its subsidiaries.
  • Develop and maintain financial models supporting community solar projects, and corporate initiatives.
  • Evaluate business performance against plan and provide actionable recommendations to improve profitability and cash flow.
  • Partner with executive leadership to translate operational performance into financial outcomes and strategic actions.

Community Solar Finance Leadership

  • Serve as the primary finance business partner for Community Solar operations and customer acquisition teams.
  • Analyze subscriber acquisition costs, retention trends, credit performance, project profitability, and portfolio economics.
  • Along with Community Solar staff, monitor key commercial metrics including subscription levels, discount rates, customer churn, and collections performance.
  • Develop reporting frameworks that enable proactive management of community solar performance across markets.
  • Evaluate strategic growth initiatives, pricing strategies, and operational investments.

AI & Finance Transformation Leadership

  • Lead the development and execution of an AI roadmap for FP&A and business finance functions.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage AI, machine learning, predictive analytics, and automation across forecasting, reporting, and decision support processes.
  • Implement AI-enabled forecasting techniques to improve accuracy of revenue, cash flow, subscriber growth, and operating expense projections.
  • Work on implementing or upgrading commercial FP&A/CPM platforms (e.g., Planful, Anaplan, Adaptive Insights/Workday Adaptive, OneStream, Vena); includes requirements gathering, chart of accounts mapping, workflow design, and UAT.
  • Drive automation of recurring reporting, variance analysis, KPI monitoring, and management dashboards.
  • Partner with Business Operations, and business leaders to establish scalable data governance and analytics infrastructure.
  • Evaluate and deploy next-generation finance technologies that improve productivity and decision-making.
  • Champion a culture of innovation and continuous improvement across the finance organization.

Reporting & Performance Management

  • Build executive-level dashboards and performance scorecards using Power BI and other business intelligence tools.
  • Establish standardized operational and financial KPIs across the organization.
  • Report and analyze at the Business-unit segmented P&L level, including revenue, gross margin, OpEx, and EBITDA; fluency in both GAAP and management/adjusted reporting views
  • Deliver clear, concise, and actionable financial insights to senior leadership.
  • Lead monthly business reviews with operational stakeholders and executive management.
  • Develop variance analysis processes that identify business trends and support rapid decision-making.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing FP&A team.
  • Promote data-driven decision-making throughout the organization.
  • Foster collaboration across Finance, Community Solar, Asset Management, and Corporate Functions.
  • Must have unrestricted work Authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Competitive Salary $190,000-$210,000
