Salary:  Level 12 Step 1 ($5,472.75 bi-weekly)

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Ni'ehłyat, Nidähjì’ is responsible for the overall administration, management and delivery of the TH Government’s child, youth and family programs and services. The incumbent oversees the expansion of programs, services and operational capacity to meet the growing and emerging needs of the Department and Citizens. The incumbent develops strategies, capital and operational budgets, workplans and strategic partnerships, and oversees proposal development, reporting and case plan implementation. The incumbent oversees research on traditional family and wellness best practices, and collaborates with the Department of Implementation on the design of implementation models for self-government and related services. The incumbent leads the development of legislation, policies, MOAs and service delivery models. The incumbent liaises regularly with other governments and agencies to access funding or additional support services, and represents the TH Government on various committees and working groups. 

An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:  

• Post-secondary degree (preferably a Master’s) in family and community services, social work, human services, public administration or other related discipline, with relevant work experience and training in case management, public health, clinical counseling, social services programming or community justice; an equivalent combination of education, experience, skills and abilities may be considered. 

• Three years of experience working in the delivery of child and family services or in a similar work environment, preferably in a management or supervisory role. 

• Proven experience in jëje’in supervision, performance management, coaching, capacity building and team building. 

• Knowledge and understanding of the health and social issues affecting First Nations people, including colonialism, intergenerational trauma, the impacts of Residential Schools and the “60s scoop” on individuals, families and communities. 

• Knowledge of and experience working with funding agencies. 

• Strong administrative skills combined with proven experience forecasting, monitoring and managing budgets and work plans. 

• Experience in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating programs, policies and procedures. 

• Experience in conflict management, mediation and problem-solving. 

Assets:  

• Knowledge of TH governmental structures, the TH Final Agreement, TH Self-Government Agreement and TH Constitution, culture, traditions, basic phrases in the Hän language, history, demographics and family structures. 

• Ability to deal tactfully and respectfully with Citizens, jëje’in and the public. 

• Strong work ethic, reliable and self-motivated. 

• Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment and demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of First Nation culture and traditions. 

Conditions of Employment:

• Class 5 Drivers License with clear Driver’s Abstract. 

• Standard First Aid certification.  

• TH101 Cultural Awareness training.
