Job Description

The EHS Manager is responsible for the systematic EHS management across Veolia Water Technologies’ operations in Switzerland. The EHS Manager is responsible for implementing comprehensive corporate programs related to Environment, Health, and Safety and for driving a long term strategic approach to EHS. This role will ensure compliance with local and international EHS regulations while promoting a culture of continuous improvement and safe, environmentally responsible practices. The role works closely with the organization, supporting managers, process owners as well as all employees in ensuring safety is always a top priority as well as safe and compliant operations. 

Key Responsibilities

Health, Safety & Environment Management

  • Enforce and maintain health and safety policies and procedures, conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments. Investigate incidents and accidents, provide safety training, ensure compliance with Swiss and EU health and safety regulations as well as the EHS regulations of Veolia.

  • Implement and maintain environmental management systems in line with ISO standards. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permits. Manage environmental initiatives, environmental impact assessments, ensure systematic environmental management processes.

  • Support the planning, implementation and monitoring of safety risks in all activities.

  • Identify risks and support risk assessments.

  • Be a strong contributor within the Veolia Water Tech EHS community and be an equally strong representative of the community in Switzerland.

  • Monitor EHS KPIs, identify strengths and weaknesses and manage action plans accordingly.

  • Support the Sustainability management and ensure the required data is made available for strategic sustainability management and reporting.

  • Ensure a fully compliant EHS competence matrix is effective in the organization.

  • Ensure that a regulatory compliance process is in place and effective in the organization.

  • Support the management of Veolia Ozonia Switzerland AG with EHS expertise and support prioritization between EHS and other topics.

  • Follow "Always Safe" principles including compliance with occupational health and safety rules, leading by example, ensuring safety is primary consideration in work scheduling.

Safety Officer (SIBE) and Environment Responsible 

  • Act as Safety Officer (SIBE – Sicherheitsbeauftragter) and Environment Responsible within the Q.HSE organisation of Veolia Ozonia Switzerland AG, with tasks and responsibilities according to "HQM 117457 - Local Q.HSE Organisation in OAG.pdf", specifically:

    • Safety Officer

    • Environment Responsible

    • Local Process Responsibles for HSE process

  • The role of SIBE is a legal requirement under SUVA (Swiss National Accident Insurance Fund) regulation 6508 of EKAS (Eidgenössische Kommission für Arbeitssicherheit – Federal Coordination Commission for Occupational Safety), mandatory for companies with more than 10 employees and activities listed in appendix 1, which includes electroplating, ozone research lab, piloting activities and chemical lab of application.

  • The SIBE must hold an EKAS recognized training (KOPAS or Sicherheitsfachmann training) and attend periodic refresher courses offered by SUVA.

Building and Infrastructure Management

Manage the building and its infrastructure (including furniture, excluding IT equipment), including among others:

  • Negotiations with the landlord

  • Planning, supplier selection and coordination of maintenance, renovation, repair or modification of the building or infrastructure

  • Maintaining related documentation

  • Issuing instructions regarding use, access and behaviour related to the building and infrastructure

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field

  • Practical experience and proficiency in hazardous energy control and the strict application of LOTO standards on electrical, chemical, and gas systems

  • Familiar with Swiss and EU health, safety, and environmental regulations

  • EKAS recognized training (KOPAS or Sicherheitsfachmann) or willingness to obtain it, with commitment to periodic SUVA refresher courses

  • Fluency in German and English

  • Experience in ISO Management standards, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Strong communicator with the ability and experience to build trust and engage employees on all levels

  • Experience in the water treatment industry is a plus
