Elementary Dean of Students/Counselor

Hemlock Public School District is excited to welcome a dedicated Dean of Students / School Counselor
to join our Huskie Pack at K.C. Ling Elementary and make a lasting impact on the lives of our young learners.

Required Qualifications:

• Valid Michigan School Counselor Certification or School Counselor License
• Bachelor’s Degree in School Counseling, Educational Leadership, Student Services, or a related field preferred
• Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred
• Knowledge of social-emotional learning, restorative practices, behavior support systems, and student intervention strategies
• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
• Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners
• Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and student-centered practices

A successful candidate will be able to:

• Cultivate a Culture of Belonging and Growth:
  Help create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive school environment where every student feels valued, connected, and empowered to succeed.
• Champion Student Success:
  Provide individual and small-group counseling services that support students' academic achievement, social-emotional development, problem-solving skills, and overall well-being.
• Promote Positive Student Behavior:
  Partner with students, staff, and families to implement restorative practices, positive behavior supports, and proactive interventions that foster student growth and accountability.
• Support Attendance and Student Engagement:
  Monitor attendance patterns, identify barriers to success, and collaborate with families and community partners to ensure students remain engaged and connected to school.
• Build Strong Relationships:
  Develop meaningful connections with students, families, teachers, and staff while serving as a trusted advocate and resource for the school community.
• Lead Student Support Efforts:
  Collaborate with teachers, intervention teams, and administrators to identify student needs, coordinate supports, and implement effective strategies for academic, behavioral, and social-emotional success.
• Use Data to Drive Student Outcomes:
  Analyze behavioral, attendance, and student support data to identify trends, measure effectiveness of interventions, and develop strategies that promote positive outcomes for all students.
• Support a Positive School Climate:
  Take an active role in creating a school culture focused on respect, responsibility, kindness, and student leadership through schoolwide initiatives and programming.

Salary and Position: 

• Full-time, school-year position
• Salary starting at $48,000, based on qualifications and experience
• Comprehensive benefits package
• Position begins with the 2026–2027 school year
