Position Information:  The Emergency Department Manager is responsible for the clinical and operational leadership of the emergency department.  Responsible for all aspects of care in the Emergency Department.  Responsible for the oversight of all aspects of the Trauma program.  Serves as the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for Citizens Health Inc.

 

Days: the department is staffed 365 days a year

 

Pay Range:  Dependent upon experience.

 

What you’ll do:

Emergency Department oversight

  • Develop, review and revise policies to ensure the effective, efficient delivery of quality patient care in the Emergency Department.
  • Monitor, collect and review data to ensure quality patient care through the use of the managerial and nursing process.
  • Participate in the on-going quality assurance program 
  • Act as a Liaison between Emergency Department staff and other departments, medical staff, Patients/Visitors/Families and community groups to assure a positive working relationship.
  • Implement program initiatives to improve patient care in the emergency setting.

Trauma Program oversight

  • Work in close collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director and has a mutually constructive and supportive relationship.
    • Clinical:  Coordinate management across the continuum of trauma care, to include planning and implementation of clinical protocols and practice management guidelines, monitoring care of in-hospital patients and serving as a resource for clinical practice.
    • Education:  Facilitate for intramural and extramural professional development.  Participate in case review, implementation of practice guidelines, and direct community trauma education and prevention programs.  Hold Critical Care Committee meetings at least 6 times a year.
    • Performance Improvement:  Monitor clinical processes and outcomes and system issues related to the quality of care provided; Perform audits and case reviews on all trauma cases.  Identify trends and sentinel events and help outline remedial actions while maintaining confidentiality. Holds Peer Review Committee meeting in conjunction with the Trauma Medical Director as needed.
    • Administration: Manage the operational, personnel and financial aspects of the trauma program.
    • Trauma Registry:  Provide oversight of the Trauma registry.
    • Liaison:  Serve as a Liaison for EMS agencies.  Provide oversight and an internal resource for all departments involved in trauma care.
    • Trauma Care Systems:  Participate in the local and regional Trauma Councils.
    • Injury Prevention:  Coordinate and oversee the development and implementation of an injury prevention program.  Identify opportunities for injury prevention programs in the local community.

Emergency Preparedness Coordinator

  • Coordinate and conduct monthly safety Committee meetings.
  • Ensure participation of Safety Program is within CMS guidelines.
  • Work with the Safety Committee to develop Emergency Preparedness policies.
  • Ensure Emergency Operations Plan and other policies are reviewed and exercised annually with CMCI associates and other governmental agencies.
  • Actively participate in the Northwest Kansas Healthcare Coalition.
  • Complete other duties, as assigned.

 

What you bring to the table: 

  • Required - 
  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in Kansas (or eligible for licensure).
  • Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in emergency department care settings.
  • Prior leadership or charge nurse experience.
  • Strong understanding of ED protocols.
  • Preferred -
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing or Health Care Administration.
  • Experience in rural healthcare or critical access hospital settings.
  • Knowledge of EMR systems and surgical scheduling software.
  • Customer and personal service to include meeting needs, assess and resolve issues, meet quality standards for services, and evaluate satisfaction
