Description

We're looking for a Staff Employee Relations Specialist to manage and execute Verily’s employee relations program and investigations. This is a high-trust, role with real autonomy and scope at the center of our People Ops team - the person we call when a situation is sensitive, complex, or consequential.

You'll handle the full spectrum of ER work: guiding managers through difficult conversations, investigating employee concerns, ensuring we're compliant across the jurisdictions we operate in, and supporting the operational infrastructure that keeps our HR practices consistent and compliant. You'll work closely with our senior employment counsel and the broader People Ops team, and you'll need to be able to handle some of the most sensitive people information in the company.

Responsibilities

  • Investigations, Discipline & Conflict Resolution: Serve as the primary point of contact for workplace escalations, conducting thorough, impartial, and well-documented investigations.

  • Manager Advisory & Coaching: Advise and coach managers on employee relations matters and performance management with empathy, clarity, and sound judgment.

  • Legal Alignment & Policy Compliance: Partner closely with employment counsel interpreting policies and employment laws to ensure consistent, compliant practices across all company jurisdictions.

  • Process Execution: Maintain meticulous case documentation, interpret and execute against ER policies, and continuously refine ER processes to drive consistency, lower operational risk, and scale the function efficiently over time.

  • Data, Briefings & Manager Enablement: Track and analyze ER data to brief HR/Legal leadership on key trends, while developing and delivering targeted trainings to empower managers on documentation, policy, and best-in-class people practices.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent practical experience).

  • 6+ years of progressive experience in human resources, employee relations, employment law, or workplace investigations.

  • Experience applying investigative techniques and independently conducting complex workplace investigations; demonstrated ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential matters with integrity and discretion.

  • Experience interpreting HR policies and applying legal advice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong working knowledge of federal and state / provincial employment laws, with multi-jurisdictional experience across complex regulatory environments strongly preferred.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills - you can write a defensible investigation report and also explain a policy to an anxious employee.

  • Comfortable operating independently, managing a varied (sometimes unpredictable) caseload, and when to escalate.

  • Experience with compliance and audit processes is a meaningful plus.
