About this role

Overview

General Dynamics Electric Boat (GDEB) is seeking talented engineers to design, construct, and maintain the world’s most capable submarines on behalf of the United States Navy.  Our submarines must outperform our adversaries while surviving the most extreme environments on Earth.  With your support we will deliver the advantage that protects our sailors, our families, and our freedom.

GDEB's Platform Systems Engineering department plays an important role in the development of a submarine by driving cross-discipline technical integration and optimization throughout the entire platform. The department is looking for a Systems Engineer who will focus on understanding the operation of complex systems, identifying and preventing system failures, addressing operator needs, and ensuring that the overall system meets U.S. Navy requirements.

Currently, the Platform Systems Engineering department is supporting a wide array of programs, each in different phases of development, including but not limited to, the VIRGINIA Class Program, the COLUMBIA Class Program and future submarine design programs. The department also supports platform payload and Special Operations Forces integration efforts.

Your responsibilities may include leading and supporting multiple engineering disciplines in resolving technical integration challenges, developing and managing technical requirements, supporting cross-functional interface development activities, testing of ship systems, and managing technical risk efforts. Platform Systems Engineering works closely with other internal engineering disciplines, with various Navy organizations, and with industry partners to ensure successful integration of complex systems within the submarine.

Assignments and responsibilities will be based on the selected applicants’ experience levels, skill sets, and ambitions, as well as on the evolving needs of each project. Some assignments may provide occasional travel opportunities to the customer’s or industry partner’s locations.
