About this role

The Engineer in Training (EIT) will participate in a program where they will rotate through 6 different Vogt Power engineering functions during a 30-week time frame. Each of the rotations will focus on teaching a different aspect of the business while providing valuable hands-on experience specific to each department. Mentors for each rotation will provide 1:1 support to further assist in the EIT’s development. The program focuses on providing in-depth technical training, business exposure, industry knowledge, as well as up to 4 weeks of field experience. Our goal is to provide early career engineers with a wide breadth of experience across all the engineering functions of our business.  Upon successful completion of the program, EITs will continue their career in an engineering role based on their preference and the needs of the company.

 

This is a paid program.  Start dates are flexible based on your institution’s academic calendar.

Engineering Rotations Summary

Thermal Engineering

·         Proprietary Thermal Rating Software for HRSG design and performance analysis

·         Design of Natural Circulation Evaporators and Steam Drums internals

·         Perform preliminary ASME Code Calculations for design of fin tubes, headers, and piping

Product Engineering

·         HRSG design including P&IDs and supporting lists of equipment

·         Sizing and specification of boiler equipment – valves, pumps, SCR systems, Duct burners, etc.

·         Technical approval and integration of boiler equipment in the overall HRSG

Mechanical/Pipe Stress Engineering

·         ASME code required pressure containment calculations

·         Calculations required for the physical layout of the HRSG

·         Piping flexibility analysis based on HRSG operational data and support design based on the results of the analysis

Project Engineering

·         Shadow a Project Engineer through capital project team meetings, design review meetings, and schedule/planning review meetings 

·         Support on an as-needed basis for assisting tasks such as technical review tracking and documentation review

·         Review and understand overall HRSG design, ASME Section 1 and B31.1 Code, VPI standards, Engineering procedures and work instructions

HRSG Services

·         Propose and support customer inquiries for spare parts. Execute spare parts projects including purchasing and logistics

·         Compile proposal estimates by working on detailed Bill of Materials tables and envisioning replacement strategy

·         Draft proposals to the customer to explain design attributes and scope of supply and installation methodology in the case of turnkey proposals

·         Participate in construction meetings and discussions to understand how installation strategies for replacement scope are developed

·         Participate in project meetings to understand technical and commercial issues associated with project execution

Field Experience

·         Field experience will vary based on availability, project timeline, and business need.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, industrial, civil, structural, chemical, process, or engineering management), or closely related discipline
  • Relevant co-op or internship experience preferred
  • Demonstrated passion for engineering
  • Excellent communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, team player
  • Leadership potential, solution minded
  • Must have a valid passport and be able to travel when required
