ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER, COMPLIANCE/AIR PROGRAMS

This role will work with the environmental lead in continuous chemical inventory and air emissions tracking systems that underpin EPCRA and air quality compliance at SpaceX’s Bastrop, TX site—a high-throughput mass manufacturing environment. The engineer will work in a cross functional environment to contribute to designs, help develop operational plans, and maintain records that keep inventory and emissions current through changing production rates, material streams, and equipment configurations, ensuring that Tier II, TRI, and air permit reports are complete, accurate, and audit ready. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Own and operate continuous assessments for hazardous chemical inventory tracking across a mass manufacturing site: receipts, line/process usage, storage quantities, max on-site amounts, average daily amounts, and container counts by location
  • Use continuous inventory outputs to prepare, quality-check, and submit Tier II and TRI filings on schedule; archive calculations and submission packages
  • Improve or develop inventory tracking tools, workflows, and compliance calendars so EPCRA data stays complete and current throughout the year despite production changes and materials churn
  • Perform internal audits focused on inventory integrity, emissions data completeness, and recordkeeping gaps; drive corrective actions with manufacturing stakeholders
  • Own and operate continuous emissions and activity tracking of emission sources in a mass manufacturing setting (i.e. process units, coating/painting, combustion equipment, tanks, fugitives, and other site sources). Including rolling this information applicable reports such as annual emission fees
  • Use that information to maintain throughput, operating hours, material usage, operating parameters, and monitoring data as required and as production volume and schedules vary
  • Own area emission unit inventories and source-level tracking on current or incoming equipment, and keep track of when equipment is modified, decommissioned, and/or when production rates, product mix, or process recipes change
  • Work with process owners to review and assess equipment buy-offs, coordinate emissions testing with contractors if necessary
  • Support permit applications, amendments, and renewals in a continuously evolving environment. Work with environmental lead, stakeholders, and consultants to map out and develop long-term permitting plans
  • Monitor regulatory changes affecting EPCRA lists/thresholds and air permit recordkeeping; update tracking practices and brief management
  • Maintain constructive relationships with governmental stakeholders such as the TCEQ, RRC, LCRA, and the local county/city 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 1+ years of professional experience in the design, development, and execution of environmental and regulatory compliance programs
  • Experience operating or building compliance programs in an industrial or manufacturing setting, such as inventory tracking, emissions/activity tracking, or related regulatory reporting 

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, environmental science/management, chemical engineering, or related field
  • 3+ years in mass manufacturing or high-throughput industrial production owning continuous chemical inventory and/or emissions tracking that feeds EPCRA (Tier II/TRI) and/or air permit reporting
  • 1+ years performing deep process/equipment design reviewin mass manufacturing or high-throughput industrial productioncontributing in final acceptance testing and abatement/control tie-in selection
  • Experience sustaining inventory and emissions data quality under high material turnover, multi-shift operations, frequent process/equipment changes, and large SKU or chemical catalogs
  • Experience with Title V or state air permit recordkeeping and periodic compliance reports in Texas
  • Strong working knowledge of EPA, TCEQ, EPCRA, Clean Air Act, and Texas community right-to-know / air requirements 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This is not a remote or hybrid position and will require relocation if not already local to the Bastrop, TX area
  • Position occasionally requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends when needed
