Fiber Designer (Forced Relocations)

Project Resources Group (PRG) is seeking an experienced Fiber Designer in our Salt Lake City, UT office who will redesign existing fiber optic Outside Plant (OSP) infrastructure impacted by third-party construction, municipal, and DOT projects, while also providing day-to-day engineering support to keep active relocation work moving. The role splits between hands-on design work and coordination — tracker management, GIS documentation, agency meetings, and support for field and construction teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop engineering designs for repairs, relocations, and special request work affecting fiber optic OSP infrastructure, including aerial, underground, micro-trenching, and boring installation types.
• Review utility relocation notices, agency plan sets, and conflict reports to determine scope, urgency, and impacts to existing facilities.
• Support the engineering team by monitoring shared program communications, assisting with field questions, responding to construction manager needs, and supporting PRG field representatives.
• Maintain and update project trackers with incoming information from municipalities, agencies, field representatives, and internal stakeholders.
• Process incoming client and stakeholder requests and project-related data to support engineering decisions, relocation planning, and workflow management.
• Ingest completed repair and relocation documentation into GIS systems and maintain accurate project records.
• Attend city, agency, and utility coordination meetings to review project plans, discuss conflicts, and align on relocation requirements and schedules.
• Coordinate design sequencing with field and construction teams to keep relocation efforts progressing without unnecessary delays.
• Maintain accurate as-built documentation reflecting final relocation work for internal and client records.
• Support ongoing process improvements that enhance design quality, documentation accuracy, and team responsiveness.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• At least three years of experience with FTTH infrastructure and OSP design, including utility conflict resolution, forced relocation, repair, or municipal/DOT coordination work.
• Demonstrated expertise in OSP design tools such as AutoCAD, Microstation, 3-GIS, Vetro, Arc/Esri, or other GIS systems.
• Experience interpreting government, municipal, or agency construction plans to identify utility conflicts and required design adjustments.
• Experience with permitting processes, ROW/easement requirements, tracker management, and coordination with local, county, or state agencies.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage incoming data, documentation, and multiple project priorities with accuracy.
• Experience supporting city, agency, or utility coordination meetings related to forced relocation and infrastructure conflict work.
• Familiarity with GIS workflows and repair and relocation documentation processes.
• Advanced knowledge of OSP architectures, fiber splicing techniques, and overall fiber network design.
• Familiarity with ISP/MDU design and the ability to apply that knowledge when needed.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Maps) for documentation and collaboration.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and time-management skills, with the ability to manage compressed relocation timelines and active support requests.

Work Environment 

• This is an onsite position that requires you to be in our Salt Lake City, Utah office.
