About this role

Recall AI

RecallAI is a venture-backed, high-growth software company built on a usage-based (consumption) revenue model — customers are billed based on metered product usage rather than flat subscription fees. Our finance organization plays a critical role in translating that usage into accurate, defensible revenue, giving the business real-time visibility into growth as it scales.

The Role

We're looking for a hands-on Controller to own the accounting close, financial reporting, and revenue recognition for our usage-based business. This role is uniquely suited to someone who is energized by the complexity of consumption-based pricing — metering, usage credits, overages, true-ups, minimum commitments, and variable consideration under ASC 606 — and who wants to build the accounting infrastructure and controls that will scale with the company. You'll partner closely with the CFO, Revenue Operations Team, Sales, and Product/Engineering to ensure usage data flows cleanly into billing, revenue, and the financial statements.

What You'll Do

  • Own the end-to-end monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, delivering accurate financials on a tight timeline.

  • Lead revenue recognition for usage-based and hybrid (subscription + consumption) contracts in accordance with ASC 606, including variable consideration, minimum commitments, overages, and true-ups.

  • Partner with Engineering and Data teams to validate that metered usage data reconciles accurately to billing systems and to revenue recognized in the general ledger.

  • Manage relationships and integrations with billing/metering platforms (specifically Stripe Billing, Metronome) and the ERP/GL system.

  • Maintain deferred revenue, unbilled receivables, contract assets and liabilities, and related revenue schedules and reconciliations.

  • Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger operations, including collections on usage-based invoices.

  • Design, implement, and continuously improve internal controls and accounting policies as the company.

  • Manage the annual financial statement audit, acting as the primary point of contact for external auditors The company will have their first audit with a Big 4.

  • Some FP&A work on revenue forecasting and usage trend analysis, given the inherent variability of consumption-based revenue. Experience using Snowflake is important

  • Ensure compliance with multi-state and multi-country sales tax/VAT obligations tied to usage-based billing.

  • Help Prepare board- and investor-ready financial reporting packages.

  • Manage the accounting team as the organization grows.

  • Evaluate, implement, and optimize finance systems (ERP, billing/metering, expense, and payroll platforms) to support scale.

What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a Controller or accounting leadership role.

  • Direct experience with usage-based, consumption, or hybrid subscription/usage revenue models — you understand the nuances of ASC 606 variable consideration, not just flat-fee SaaS recognition.

  • Hands-on experience with modern billing/metering platforms (Stripe Billing, Metronome,) and ERP systems (NetSuite, QuickBooks Online, or similar).

  • Track record owning fast, accurate month-end close in a high-growth environment.

  • Experience building and documenting internal controls, ideally with exposure to SOX or audit-readiness initiatives.

  • Strong GAAP technical accounting skills and comfort operating with ambiguity as processes are built from scratch.

  • Excellent communication skills — able to explain usage-based revenue mechanics clearly to non-finance stakeholders, executives, and the board.

  • A builder's mindset: comfortable rolling up your sleeves on day-to-day accounting while also designing scalable processes and systems.

  • Passed a clean audit with a Big 4

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience at an early- or growth-stage venture-backed startup.

  • CPA certification

  • Experience with multi-entity and/or international accounting and consolidations.

  • Experience integrating product/usage telemetry pipelines with billing and revenue systems.

Why Join Us

  • Ownership over a critical, high-visibility function at a fast-growing company.

  • Direct partnership with the CFO and executive team on strategic financial decisions.

  • Competitive salary, equity, and benefits package.
