Job Description

  

Teledyne CARIS is a global leader in the design and production of geospatial software solutions for the hydrographic, marine, and maritime industries. As part of Teledyne Technologies, we develop advanced data management and production systems used by hydrographic offices, ports, and maritime authorities worldwide.

Developer for Cartographic Production Tools

We are currently seeking a highly motivated developer to join our HPD team in Fredericton NB.  This role focuses on the development and evolution of our Hydrographic Production Database (HPD), a production system used around the world for managing, validating, and producing marine charting data.
 

The successful candidate will contribute to database design, query development, and backend services, working with complex schemas and complex geospatial datasets. A strong foundation in relational databases, API development, and data-driven systems is essential. Experience with PostgreSQL is highly desirable, and Oracle experience is also considered a strong asset.

Your Role in Plain Text:

  • Build new features using C++ on using our application layer

  • Develop and optimize SQL queries, views, and stored procedures

  • Build and maintain backend services and APIs for accessing and managing HPD data

  • Work with PostgreSQL or Oracle for data storage, querying, and optimization

  • Support data ingestion, validation, and transformation processes

  • Contribute to data modeling aligned with hydrographic standards (e.g., S-57, S-100)

  • Collaborate with developers, domain experts, and product owners in an agile environment

  • Participate in performance tuning, troubleshooting, and debugging of data-related issues

  • Contribute to automated testing and continuous integration practices

  • Present new features and improvements in internal demos

To be successful in this role, we would love if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree or master’s in computer science or engineering

  • 4+ years of relevant experience as a backend or full stack developer

  • Strong experience with relational databases and SQL

  • Experience developing APIs (e.g., RESTful services) and integrating with backend systems

  • Experience with backend development in C++

  • Fluency in English

Knowledge of the following technologies is an asset

PostgreSQL, Oracle, Python, API design and development (REST, JSON), Geospatial data formats and standards (S-57, S-100, GIS concepts), Database performance tuning and indexing strategies, Subversion, Git, Jira
