Compensation

The base hourly rate for this position is $19.71.

This is a production position working to support the Cupola Operator is away from the control station.  Working with plant management team at all levels within the organization to support the four Johns Manville core values: People, Passion, Performance, and Protection.  The essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Supports and promotes safe practices and environmental commitments in alignment with company commitments, policies, and compliance requirements
  • Support the Cupola Operator when they are away from the control station by monitoring ABB Controls for the Cupola, Rock Yard and support equipment production areas including: Raw material batch and delivery, binder, spinner, Envirotec, bag house and collection chamber
  • Support the activities of, and work as a team member with the Cupola operator to safely ensure consistent melt delivery.
  • Complete Cupola tasks at the direction of the Cupola Operator or Supervisor to operate safely, efficiently and consistently: Taps, diverts, bank and drops.
  • Support the Cupola Operator when away from the control station by communicating between different functional areas.
  • Report any machine, process or safety issues to the Cupola Operator or Supervisor.
  • Support maintenance and technical resources to assist in troubleshooting controls, spinner and support equipment issues.
  • Monitor automatic E-stops, lockout points, and control equipment while being repaired
  • Collect samples for quality testing and analysis.
  • Monitor production line video cameras and scale systems to detect production problems and maximize output
  • Fill in for the Cupola Operator in their absence.  Complete all necessary reports and store any necessary records as required by environmental permits and plant policy.
  • Always use safe work practices, follows all safety rules and procedures, immediately reports any hazardous conditions, and fully participate in safety program.
  • Perform safety observations and complete training assignments.
  • Wears all personal protective equipment as required by management, including but not limited to all or some of the following; protective shoes, glasses, ear plugs, bump cap or hard hat, dust mask or respirator.
  • Performs other duties as directed

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, straightforward written or oral instructions
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Excel.  ABB knowledge is a plus.
  • 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Team worker with a high degree of interpersonal skills
  • Good communication skills with the ability to define and articulate problems to support resources including maintenance, engineering and IT.
  • Must be able to lift 35lb box.
  • Must be able to use stairs.
  • Must be able to either sit or stand for 12 hours at production line controls with infrequent breaks.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk.  The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and communicate accurately with coworkers.  The employee will frequently engage in repetitive motions.  The employee must frequently, lift, push or pull 25 pounds and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance. Visual acuity is required to work around and with machinery including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

This job is in an industrial, manufacturing environment.  The job requires working frequently around and with heavy machinery with moving mechanical parts, industrial ovens, and mobile equipment.  The environment is not climate controlled and employees must be able to work in environments that may be extremely hot and humid or cold depending upon the operation and the season.  Walking surfaces can be wet, dusty, and uneven.  Areas of the building where work must be done have high noise levels, vibration, and/or fumes.  Some working areas contain the presence of airborne particles which can irritate the skin or eyes.  The manufacturing process involves toxic or caustic chemicals.  Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment which includes steel toed shoes, ear protection, eye protection and in certain areas may be required to where dust masks, respirators, gloves or head protection.
