Overview
Next 150 Construction, a fully owned subsidiary of Gilbane Building Company is seeking a General Superintendent. The General Superintendent is responsible for the overall field on a large project, leading a team of superintendents to ensure that company policies and procedures are met in regard to safety, scheduling, budget, quality and customer satisfaction.Â
Responsibilities
- Ensures that the day-to-day coordination of trade contractors and their sub-contractors turn out high-quality work that meets the approved project scheduleÂ
- Manages the project budget for general conditions and site servicesÂ
- Develops, documents and communicates the work plan regarding changes made in the fieldÂ
- Maintains a thorough understanding of contract documents to be able to plan ahead and anticipate potential problems before they ariseÂ
- Obtains or verifies that the subcontractors obtain all necessary permits for construction purposesÂ
- Verifies safety compliance with all trades; acts as primary safety representative in the field and enforce quality control policiesÂ
- Conducts maintenance and planning of “work-arounds,” shutdowns and tie-insÂ
- Establishes credibility among owners, trade contractors, unions etc. by maintaining a fair and trustworthy environmentÂ
- Leads contractor meetings on a regular basisÂ
- Oversees daily reports and documentation using ProcoreÂ
- Creates, manages, and updates the project schedule, create and implement contingency plans when necessaryÂ
- Communicates schedule status, updates, and changes to Project Team and Trade ContractorsÂ
- Plans, coordinates and manages jobsite logisticsÂ
- Oversees project quality plan and implements necessary changesÂ
- Resolves jurisdictional disputesÂ
- Tracks production as neededÂ
- Executes self-performing capabilities, workforce planning, and quantifying material needsÂ
- Handles forecasting and projecting cost of workÂ
- Aids in the development of project teamÂ
- Trains direct reports on processes, procedures and completion of daily tasks Â
- Manages workload and performance of direct reports, ensuring alignment with overall company standards Â
- Fosters a positive and inclusive work environment to motivate and engage team membersÂ
- Aids in communicating company and department strategy to direct reports
Qualifications
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
Â
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or Construction ManagementÂ
- 10-15 years of experience on a $15-50+ million commercial/ industrial construction project or multiple projects in a superintendent roleÂ
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong technical and communication skillsÂ
- Excellent organizational skillsÂ
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing needsÂ
- Ability to work in a team environmentÂ
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and ProcoreÂ
- Knowledge of construction-documenting and drawing, with knowledge of all phases of constructionÂ
- Proficient in all divisions of work, methods, materials, scheduling, and cost controlÂ
- Must have strong knowledge and appreciation of construction safety processes and ability to enforce the project safety planÂ
- Must be able to create an environment where “safety first” is the culture and all trades people work with an incident and injury free attitudeÂ
- Ability to supervise a project teamÂ
- OSHA 30 hour certifiedÂ

Salary to be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience of the applicant, as well as the internal equity and alignment with the team.
The pay ranges from $130,000.00-$200,000.00 plus benefits and retirement program.
