Job Description

As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the stability and safety of mining operations here at the Haile gold mine. Your expertise in geotechnical engineering will be instrumental in assessing ground conditions, designing support systems, and implementing measures to mitigate geotechnical risks. This role requires a strong background in geotechnical analysis, project management, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct geotechnical assessments and site characterizations to identify potential risks.
  • Design and implement ground support systems to ensure the stability of mining structures.
  • Perform slope stability analyses, modelling, and recommend appropriate designs for both open pit and underground mining.
  • Implementing ground support design standards for underground mine development and rehabilitation
  • Collaborate with planning, operations, and other stakeholders to optimize mining methods.
  • Ensuring ground control audits and quality assurance programs are carried out regularly and documented.
  • Ownership of the site Ground Control Management Plan
  • Prepare geotechnical reports, analyses, and documentation for regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain site Geotech block model
  • Maintain numerical stress models
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, advancements, and innovations in geotechnical engineering.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mine Engineering, Geology, or a related field;
  • 2+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering within the mining industry (Open Pit and/or Underground).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or P.Eng would be considered an asset.
  • Proficient in geotechnical analysis software and relevant mine engineering tools such as RocScience Suite, Geoslope, Itasca FLAC, Phase 2, Deswik, and Vulcan.
  • Experience with open-pit radar and underground monitoring systems
  • Ability to log core for Geotechnical properties (RMR, Q’, etc)
  • Ability to Map Structures
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and environmental considerations in mining operations.
