About this role

Put your transportation experience to work coordinating trucks, routes, equipment, and complex moves.

Astro Towing is looking for an experienced, resourceful Hauling Dispatcher who understands how transportation works in the real world. We're looking for someone with a practical knowledge of logistics, route planning, commercial trucks and equipment, and transportation permits โ€” and the judgment to make good decisions when plans change.

Candidates should bring previous transportation experience and a practical understanding of routing, commercial equipment, and transportation requirements. If you've worked in dispatch, trucking, heavy haul, logistics, equipment moving, or have previous commercial driving experience and are ready to put that knowledge to work in an operations-focused role, we'd like to hear from you.

About the Role

As a Hauling Dispatcher, you'll be at the center of our day-to-day hauling operations, coordinating drivers, trucks, trailers, routes, permits, schedules, and customer requirements to ensure loads get where they need to go safely and efficiently.

This role goes beyond simply assigning a truck to a job. You'll need to understand what equipment each move requires, how to route it, what restrictions or permits may apply, and how each decision affects the rest of the operation.

Transportation doesn't always go according to plan. When trucks are delayed, equipment availability changes, customer requirements shift, or unexpected issues arise, you'll assess the situation, find the best solution, communicate it clearly, and keep things moving.

You'll work closely with drivers, customers, management, and the operations team while also providing guidance and support to less experienced dispatch team members.

What We're Looking For

You'll be a strong fit if you have:

  • Experience in transportation, trucking, hauling, logistics, or commercial dispatch
  • Strong knowledge of route planning, geography, and commercial transportation requirements
  • Familiarity with commercial trucks, trailers, and various equipment
  • Working knowledge of transportation permits, restrictions, and regulatory requirements
  • Strong judgment and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions when circumstances change
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple jobs and priorities at once
  • Clear, professional communication skills and a strong customer-service mindset
  • Comfort using dispatch software, GPS/fleet tracking systems, email, and Microsoft Office

Previous commercial driving experience is a strong asset. We value the practical knowledge that comes from understanding trucks, roads, customers, and transportation from a driver's perspective.

Experience with heavy haul, equipment transportation, oversize/overweight loads, specialized trailers, or permitting is also an asset.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Plan and dispatch hauling trips, matching drivers, trucks, trailers, routes, and schedules to each job's requirements
  • Plan efficient and appropriate routes, considering equipment, load dimensions, road restrictions, permits, driver hours, and customer timelines
  • Coordinate permits, documentation, pickup and delivery appointments, and other trip requirements
  • Communicate with drivers and customers throughout each job, providing clear instructions, estimates, timelines, and updates
  • Monitor active trips and problem-solve delays, equipment issues, schedule changes, and other operational challenges
  • Make efficient use of drivers and equipment by considering availability, maintenance requirements, backhaul opportunities, and upcoming work
  • Ensure trip information, paperwork, rates, and other operational details are complete and accurate
  • Work closely with management and the dispatch team to plan upcoming work, improve operational efficiency, and support less experienced team members

If you know transportation, enjoy solving logistical challenges, and take pride in keeping a busy operation moving,ย we'd love to hear from you. An acceptable criminal record check is required for this position.
