Location: Ford Island, Hawaii (Onsite, OCONUS)
Clearance Requirement: Active U.S. SECRET (ability to obtain Top Secret/SCI preferred)
Travel Requirements: Occasional travel, including potential international travel

Role Overview

The Field Systems Engineer provides onsite technical support for Department of War (DoW) Airborne ISR (AISR) Full Motion Video (FMV) mission systems operating in a mission-critical environment. Working closely with customer personnel and senior engineering staff, this position is responsible for maintaining system availability, troubleshooting technical issues, and supporting the deployment and sustainment of ISR infrastructure.

The successful candidate will serve as an onsite technical resource supporting daily operations while leveraging reachback engineering teams for complex system issues and modernization efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Systems Operations & Technical Support

  • Provide day-to-day operational support for AISR Full Motion Video (FMV) systems and supporting infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, operating system, and network issues using established procedures.
  • Assist with installation, configuration, and maintenance of Linux servers, applications, and supporting services.
  • Support Cross Domain Solution (CDS) operations, routine maintenance, and configuration changes under established engineering guidance.
  • Monitor system health and respond to customer issues to maintain operational availability.

Customer Support

  • Serve as an onsite technical representative supporting Government personnel and mission users.
  • Work closely with senior engineers and remote support teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Document incidents, troubleshooting activities, and system changes in accordance with program processes.
  • Provide timely updates regarding system status, maintenance activities, and operational concerns.

Deployment & Sustainment

  • Assist with deployment of new hardware, software upgrades, and system enhancements.
  • Support routine maintenance of LAN/WAN infrastructure and associated network devices.
  • Perform system patching, software updates, backups, and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Assist with virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, or similar) and containerized applications as required.
  • Follow cybersecurity policies and procedures including RMF, STIG implementation, and security best practices.

Desired Technical Experience

  • Experience administering Linux operating systems (RHEL, Rocky Linux, CentOS, or similar).
  • Familiarity with IP networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, routing, switching, and DNS.
  • Experience troubleshooting enterprise hardware, software, and networking issues.
  • Working knowledge of virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
  • Basic understanding of Cross Domain Solutions (CDS) or secure data transfer technologies is desirable.
  • Familiarity with video streaming technologies or Full Motion Video (FMV) environments is preferred but not required.
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense or Government information systems is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure, systems administration, or field engineering.
  • Active U.S. SECRET Security Clearance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI clearance.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in an onsite customer-facing environment.
  • Willingness to support occasional after-hours maintenance and operational requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting DoD, Intelligence Community, or mission systems.
  • Familiarity with Airborne ISR or Full Motion Video (FMV) systems.
  • Experience with VMware, Kubernetes, Docker, or other virtualization/container technologies.
  • Knowledge of DISA STIGs, RMF, or DoD cybersecurity practices.
  • Security+, Linux+, RHCSA, CCNA, or similar industry certifications.

Position Summary

This position is intended for an engineer who is developing toward senior technical expertise and is capable of supporting operational mission systems with limited supervision. The Field Systems Engineer will:

  • Provide onsite technical support for mission-critical ISR systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve routine to moderately complex technical issues.
  • Support system deployments, upgrades, and preventative maintenance.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers for advanced troubleshooting and engineering activities.
  • Deliver professional customer support while helping ensure reliable system operations in a secure OCONUS environment.

Cubic Pay Range:

$126,000.00 - $137,000.00 + benefits.
