Teaching at Canadian Academy:

Canadian Academy teachers inspire minds and nurture compassion by providing a rich and engaging programme that develops students’ skills, promotes curiosity and love of learning, and prioritizes well-being. All students follow the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) in Grades 6-10, and most students pursue the IB Diploma Programme (DP) in Grades 11 & 12, although 10-20% each year opt for a more personalized pathway to graduation that includes a mix of DP and other courses and leads to a CA Diploma. Teaching and learning are enriched by opportunities for exploration in the arts, athletics, outdoor education, service, and more.

CA is a highly collaborative professional environment, where innovation is encouraged and student learning and well-being drive everything we do. Subject teams work closely together and learn from one another, and opportunities for professional development abound. A low student-teacher ratio and a stimulating, well-resourced, technology-rich environment make this an exceptional place to teach. Our teachers get to know their students well, both in and out of the classroom, and work together to ensure that every student is appropriately challenged and supported.

Teaching and Learning Responsibilities:

  • Teach IB MYP Performing Arts / DP Music courses at a range of grade levels (6-12)
  • Contribute to curriculum planning and program development as a member of the Arts departmental team
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of and passion for Arts education
  • Connect with and inspire students to outstanding levels of achievement in the Performing Arts
  • Serve as homeroom Advisor for a group of approximately 10 Middle or High School students
  • Supervise Personal Projects/Extended Essays as needed to support the academic program
  • Support students’ post-secondary goals by providing reference letters as required
  • For teachers with the relevant interest and experience, there is the possibility of teaching another MYP or DP subject

As the primary Orchestra specialist:

  • Alongside departmental colleagues, prepare and lead Middle School and High School Orchestra Concerts twice a year, as well as identifying and promoting other performance opportunities
  • Lead CA’s participation in annual international APAC Orchestra Festivals
  • Maintain and oversee the department’s string instrument inventory, including violins, violas, cellos, and double basses.
  • Keep accurate records of instrument assignments, use, and loans.
  • Ensure instruments and equipment are properly stored, handled, and maintained.
  • Monitor the condition of instruments and identify maintenance or repair needs.
  • Manage routine care such as string replacement, minor adjustments, and basic upkeep.
  • Evaluate when instruments require professional repair or servicing and coordinate this as needed.
