The Pharmacist compounds and dispenses medications and pharmaceutical supplies upon receiving orders from physicians, as well as assisting in providing clinical pharmacy services, when requested. The Pharmacist is instrumental to the success of pharmacy delivered services. This role collaborates with other departments to provide the best patient care.

The Pharmacist monitors, dispenses, and adjusts medications as appropriate for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviews physician medication orders and enters medication orders into the patient profile via the computer.

  • Prepares and/or checks all I.V. admixtures using appropriate aseptic technique.

  • Provides medication information to physicians and other Center staff upon request.

  • Provides pharmacokinetic consultations as needed on appropriate patients as determined by the needs of the patient and/or the medical staff of the Center.

  • Provides thorough discharge counseling about medications as determined by the needs of the patient, as necessary.

  • Participates in on-going total quality management projects of the department, including data collection.

  • Receives Narcotic inventory by keeping records, marking packages, and shelving medications.

  • Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with Center and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system. 

  • Supervises and manages technicians on their shifts to provide excellent pharmacy services.

  • Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process.

REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy. PharmD preferred.

REQUIRED MINIMUM CERTIFICATION:

  • Current Georgia Pharmacy License

  • PGY1 residency or Board Certification preferred.

REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in a hospital and/or institutional pharmacy is preferred.

REQUIRED MINIMUM SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of daily hospital/institutional pharmacy operations preferred, but not required. 

  • Demonstrable skills in pharmacokinetics required. 

  • Good verbal and written communication skills as well as organizational skills necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • May involve standing for periods of time or exerting up to 15 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

WORKING CONDITIONS:  

  • Some potential for exposure to blood and body fluids.
