About this role

Overview

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Leadership Team, the Lead Lifeguard will be responsible for the supervision of the Aquatics facility in conjunction or in absence of the Aquatics Managers. Responsibilities include maintaining adequate coverage of all pools and ensuring a safe environment while monitoring the condition and cleanliness of the pools and pool areas.

Staff Supervisionβ€’ Oversee lifeguard staff to ensure proper coverage and adherence to safety protocols.β€’ Ensure lifeguard rotations to maintain optimal surveillance and break periods.β€’ Act as the primary point of contact for lifeguards during assigned shifts, providing guidance and support.β€’ Ensure lifeguards adhere to uniform and professional appearance standards.β€’ Practice and teach safe work habits.β€’ Supervise all areas of the Aquatic Center and staff ensuring a smooth and safe operation.

Pool/Member Safetyβ€’ Considerately and patiently enforce RJKCCC rules to provide a safe environment for all members, visitors, and employees.β€’ Respond appropriately to emergency situations.β€’ Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe areas and actions. Maintain order in swimming areas.β€’ Analyze situations and adopt a quick and effective course of action; maintain constant observation of an assigned area to identify any signs of danger.β€’ Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning.β€’ Provide first aid, rescue breathing, CPR, and AED when necessary.β€’ Practice safe work habits and contribute to the safety of self, Kroc Center co-workers, and the general public.β€’ Assist with any aspect of aquatic programming.

Pool/Equipment Maintenanceβ€’ Oversee lifeguard staff to ensure proper coverage and adherence to safety protocols.

β€’ Inspect and maintain cleanliness of swimming pool areas, locker rooms, restrooms, trash cans, cleaning equipment, aquatic equipment storage areas, and other areas as assigned.β€’ Perform set up and breakdown of facility equipment as needed.β€’ Assist with the setup and breakdown of the Swim Meet Timing System.β€’ Monitor the water quality of all pools in accordance with local, state, and federal guidelines.β€’ Inspect all equipment, supplies, and pool apparatus in all areas to ensure they are in working condition.β€’ Test or provide information for all required pool documents on a daily basis.β€’ Complete facility training and be responsible for handling certain facility functions, escalating any issues as needed.

β€’ Answer customer questions and provide information on programs being offered.β€’ Must wear standard apparel as prescribed by the Aquatics Manager and exhibit a professional appearance at all times while on duty.β€’ Attend required staff meetings and in-service trainings.β€’ Learn and adhere to all Policies and Procedures.β€’ Carry out The Salvation Army mission in your actions and words during your employment. Ensure that the ultimate goal of spirituality and emotional and physical regeneration of all people is represented and infused in all programs, trainings, customer relations, and levels of operation.β€’ Other duties within the scope of the role as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications

Requirementsβ€’ HS Diploma or GED required.β€’ Two years of lifeguarding experience; previous Lifeguard Supervisory experience preferred.β€’ At least 18 years old.β€’ Must possess American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or Equivalent.β€’ American Red Cross Certification required within 6 months of employment.β€’ Previous customer service work experience required.β€’ Must understand and support The Salvation Army’s mission as a church and a social services organization.β€’ Must be able to work a minimum of 1 weekend shift per month.

Desired Qualificationsβ€’ American Red Cross Lifeguard Management preferred.β€’ Ability and willingness to verbally communicate with a diverse audience of members.
