Job Overview

Job Summary: 

Production Lead will be responsible for overseeing the overall daily production.  Production lead should be able to lead a group of people and ensure job task and assignments align with the overall daily production needs.

Leads team members to meet daily production targets while meeting people safety and food safety expectations. Identifies problems or bottlenecks in production processes and resolves immediate issues. Partners with Maintenance to resolve issues where needed. Partners with Quality to address issues that are out of specification. Ensures materials, equipment and human resources are available as needed to maintain production schedules. Leads team members to identify, manage, and execute the plant’s process improvement opportunities. Supports continuous improvement goals in safety, quality, cost and customer service. Responsible for managing and owning various functions of the business and creating an engaged and team-oriented work force in order to improve business results.

Responsibilities

Ensure headcount is at budgeted levels

Owns people safety, food safety, cost execution, meeting the production schedule, and morale of the team

Monitor production to ensure that food safety, quality, productivity, and cost standards are met.

Provide employee training to ensure that employees are performing job responsibilities effectively.

Enforce plant rules, regulations and procedures.

Evaluate subordinate performance, communicate with employees, and provide coaching for work performance improvement.

Participate in the support of plant and company safety programs, promoting and maintaining a high level of awareness and adherence to defined employee safety requirements such as lock-out/tag-out, personal protective equipment, confined space entry, etc.

Works with other Leads and gives and seeks support to meet targets

Promotes, adheres, and is responsible for Food Safety and Quality.

 

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

  • Has demonstrated the proven ability to lead others in a positive manner to meet quality and production standards.
  • Has a strong presence on the production floor to support the line and team.
  • Above average communication skills with the ability to effectively give written and verbal direction.
  • Basic computer/data entry skills.  Previous Excel & Word experience helpful.
  • Physical requirements of job includes:
  • a.       Nearly continuous standing and occasional climbing

    b.       Frequent lifting/pushing of objects that weigh up to 60lbs.  Occasional lifting/pulling of objects that weigh 60 LBS.

    c.       Ability to operate equipment in the event of an operator absence.

    d.       Ability to read, comprehend and follow written and/or verbal directions, work instructions, etc.

    e.       Ability to understand and apply basic mathematics such as addition/subtraction/multiplication/division problems

    f.        Able to visually inspect meat, equipment, and parts

    g.       Able to analyze information and evaluate results to problem solve equipment and production issues

    6.       Ability to identify visual defects and make correction as needed and identify and distinguish between colors.

    7.       Must be able to work in areas of varying temperatures.

    8.       Relieve other associates as necessary.

    9.       Maintain good housekeeping.

    10.    Regular attendance

    11.    Promotes, adheres, and is responsible for Food Safety and Quality

    12.    Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

    13.    Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a compliant and ethical manner and in accordance with applicable Federal, State, and local laws as well as company policies and procedures.

    14.    Follow all company Safety Rules and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) and adhere to JSA guidelines.

    15.    Responsible for Food Safety and Quality Culture.

    16.    Follow daily set up and/or shutdown procedures.

    17.    Maintain accurate records.

    18.    Must be able to work any shift, overtime, weekends and/or holidays.

    19.    Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

     

     

     

     

    Qualifications

    High School diploma or GED equivalent.

    1+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

    ·         Oversees and coordinates personnel in assigned area to meet quality and efficiency standards.  Includes, but not limited to:

                                               a.            Understanding, following and enforcing the company’s Standard Operating Procedures

                                               b.            Showing initiative by communicating and working with other departments to resolve production issues

                                               c.            Training new and existing associates

                                               d.            Promotes a positive labor relations environment in the facility

                                               e.            Assists in creating and maintaining the department’s  work schedule

    ·         Understands and follows the Production Schedule making sure all orders are completed to customer specification. 

    ·         Maintains daily finished goods inventory tie out with Distribution department using the Canopy system.   

    ·         Meets all customer and regulatory labeling on finished goods

    ·         Ability to read, write and interpret documents such as box markings, labels, schedules, safety rules, GMP’s and general instructions.

    ·         Good verbal and written communication skills

    ·         Knowledge of process and equipment

    ·         Ability to work in a high paced environment.

    ·         Reliable attendance is an essential function of the job.

    ·         All other duties as assigned.

     

    Physical Requirements: 

    ·         Prolonged standing, sitting, walking, reading, writing, talking, use of a computer.

    ·         Hearing ability for verbal communication via telephone systems, and person–to–person.

    ·         Clear concise speaking ability to provide information and instruction.

    ·         Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms, and other printed materials and information.

    ·         Flexibility and body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, standing, reaching, lifting, and moving objects and equipment.

    ·         Able to meet the job's physical demands with assistive or adaptive devices or reasonable accommodations.

    While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and taste/smell; and frequently required to climb and must be able to reach all levels in the bay. The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and regularly lifts to 50 pounds. 

     

    Work Environment: 

     

    ·         Work is indoors and prolonged standing and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.

    ·         Exposed to moving mechanical parts; extreme cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
