Legal Articling Student (Peterborough)

Role (Overview of the Position)

The Legal Articling Student will support our lawyer on corporate, estates, wills, and real estate files while gaining hands‑on experience in a busy, collaborative practice. You’ll assist with research, drafting, and file work, attend client meetings, and build practical skills as you learn the day‑to‑day realities of legal practice.

Responsibilities (Tasks Associated with the Role)

• Conduct legal research, review precedents, and prepare concise memos.
• Draft legal documents, including corporate resolutions, wills/POAs, estate administration materials, and real estate transaction documents.
• Assist in advising clients on legal rights and matters across corporate, estates, and real estate law under supervision.
• Support due diligence, title searches, off‑title inquiries, and preparation of closing packages.
• Prepare and file required court, corporate, and real estate forms.
• Assist with estate administration, including probate preparation and asset information gathering.
• Attend client meetings, signings, and closings to observe and support file progress.
• Communicate with clients, lenders, realtors, and opposing counsel as directed.
• Maintain organized corporate, estate, and real estate files.

Qualifications/Skills & Experience

• Completion of law school and eligibility to article with the Law Society of Ontario.
• Prior experience in a law firm or professional office environment is an asset.
• Proficiency with legal research tools (CanLII, Westlaw, Lexis).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent research, analysis, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drafting and reviewing documents.
• Ability to manage multiple files, deadlines, and competing priorities.

Existing Vacancy: Internal and External 

Compensation: This position offers a starting salary range of $55,000 to $65,000 per year. Final compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate’s education, relevant experience, and skills.
