About this role

AACA is a Nonpublic School (NPS) serving students ages 5 to 22 with severe behavioral and developmental needs. Our mission is to provide individualized instruction and therapeutic support to help each student reach their fullest potential in a structured, compassionate environment.


About the Position


We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to provide 1:1 medical and behavioral support. This position focuses on ensuring the student’s health, safety, and participation throughout the school day, while also assisting with classroom and behavioral support as part of the paraprofessional team

The ideal candidate has experience with epilepsy management, seizure response, and g-tube/n-g-tube care, and is comfortable working in a structured behavioral setting with close collaboration among teachers, therapists, and behavior staff. This is a part time position, the hours would be M-F for about 2-3 hours a day roughly 10 hours a week can change depending on caseload.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct medical care and monitoring for assigned students.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to seizures and other medical emergencies, following established health care plans.
  • Administer and monitor g-tube and n-g-tube feedings, medications, and other prescribed medical treatments.
  • Track and document health-related data, seizure logs, and any changes in medical status.
  • Support the student’s daily routines, including hygiene, feeding, mobility, toileting, and personal care as needed.
  • Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies under the guidance of behavior specialists.
  • Maintain consistent supervision and ensure the student’s safety in all school settings (classroom, playground, community activities, transportation, etc.).
  • Communicate effectively with staff, families, and medical professionals regarding the student’s health and progress.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and ongoing professional development related to behavioral and medical care.

Qualifications

  • Current California LVN License (or ability to obtain prior to start date).
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification required.
  • Prior experience working with students or individuals with seizure disorders, g-tubes, and complex medical needs strongly preferred.
  • Comfortable working in a behavioral special needs environment with physical aggression, self-injurious behaviors, and other challenging behaviors.
  • Strong communication, patience, and teamwork skills.
  • Reliable, consistent, and compassionate demeanor with a focus on safety and care quality.

Preferred Skills

  • Training or experience in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
  • Knowledge of data collection and progress tracking related to medical and behavioral plans.
  • Flexibility to assist in classroom or paraprofessional tasks when medical needs are stable.
